Summer is here and it is time to hit the links. This week’s edition of Tee It Up took us to Roanoke, just outside of Weston for a round on the Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort. Year in and year out, this course has been revered as one of the best in the Mountain State. The bones are impressive as the King (Arnold Palmer) put together 18 holes of challenging beauty. The views are breathtaking and can steal a golfer’s eye. But you had better be focused on the task at hand or this tract will take your lunch. Punishing rough, sizeable strategically placed bunkers, intimidating water hazards, and shaped and slick greens provide the teeth of this gorgeous monster.
The reason that it provides the total package for golfers that hold high expectations is the efforts of the staff at this venue. The leader, Director of Golf, Mike Rogers, has been committed to providing the best golfing experience possible to those that are fortunate enough to play his course. Rogers went to work in the offseason repaving a mile of cart paths and adding a new fleet of top shelf Club Car Golf Carts.
The before and after round offer anything you could ask for with a fully stocked pro shop, a practice facility that will totally prepare you for your round, and a 19th hole that provides the perfect place to recap your round.
Let’s play two! I would strongly advise you to play and stay and play again. The amenities are top notch, including an indoor/outdoor pool, hot tubs, and saunas. The food is out of this world and the selections are endless.
Joe Corcoglioniti is the man behind the meals that bring people back time and time again.
The possibilities are endless and the guarantee is a great time. Stonewall is a must visit this season!
