SALEM, W.Va. – In the wake of recent changes around the landscape of higher education in the state of West Virginia, Salem University and the Mountain East Conference have announced a non-conference scheduling agreement for the 2023-24 season.
As a result of the impending closure and immediate suspension of athletics at Alderson Broaddus University, Salem will compete in non-conference play against MEC baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and women’s volleyball programs.
Salem will replace Alderson Broaddus in the schedules of the aforementioned sports. All contests will be considered non-conference.
Salem Athletic Director Alex Joseph noted, “We are excited to announce this unique partnership with the Mountain East Conference. We look forward to working with MEC administrators and coaching staffs to create high-quality student-athlete experiences for the 2023-24 season. Our university and our campus community are thrilled for this new opportunity to showcase everything Salem and its student-athletes have to offer. We thank Commissioner Amos and the conference office for their hard work in helping us develop this partnership
