This golf season has led to professional golf once again being played in West Virginia. This week’s edition of Tee It Up focuses on the recent LIV golf event that took place at the Old White Course at the Greenbriar Resort.
Bryson DeChambeau shot an impressive 58 on the tournament’s final round to run away with a six shot win. It was his first win since the 2020 US Open. DeChambeau had a long term verbal sparring match with Brooks Koepka that took most of his mental focus. The beef between two of golf’s heavyweights was supposedly ended a while back but Bryson struggled to find his old form, until he made his way to the mountain states.
The Greenbriar Resort and the PGA had a nine year marriage from 2010-2019. The stop was a favorite spot for several pro golfers that would bring their families and make a vacation out of their time in our state. The tour moved the Greenbriar Classic to September in later years, which caused the amount of fans attending to decrease drastically. The low numbers led to the even being canceled.
Having professional gold make a return to our state brought a buzz that had been missing for years. Hopefully, this was not a one and done situation and we will see more professional gold in West Virginia. Anytime that we can showcase the Greenbriar Resort on a national level good things are sure to follow.
