The Stonewood CEOS club met on July 17 2023 at the Congregational Missionary Church Annex The meeting was called to order and members welcomed by president Deloris Wilson. A candle was lit in memory of our deceased members. Roll call…members present today were Deloris Wilson, Ladonna Tucker, Jan Johnson, Estella Farnsworth, Betty Shreves, Lesita Snider, Eva Summers, April Stout, and Willa Jean Green. Devotions were read by Jan Johnson, she also led us in the salute to the American and WV flags. Minutes of last meeting were read by secretary Estella Farnsworth and accepted as read, Treasurer’s report given by Jan Johnson and filed. Jan Johnson taught the lesson on Personal Planning for today and beyond. This was a very important presentation of information that is difficult to talk about but we should do this planning sooner, rather than later so that your love ones will know what to do and what your wishes are if you are no longer here. Health motivator, Willa Jean Green shared information on keeping food safe at picnics. Some important things to remember are use clean coolers with adequate ice to keep foods like potato and macaroni salads cool; use a separate cooler for meats. Wash hands before handling food, and always use clean utensils. The health motivator also talked about the importance of showing comfort and care to those around us.
Deloris Wilson reported that she had visited a local nursing home and read to the residents, they were happy to have her come. We will schedule visits at least 2 times a month. 9 members attended the County Picnic/ County council meeting on July 10. Attending were Deloris and Richard Wilson, Darlene and Bill Francis, Willa Jean Green, Eva Summers, Lesita Snider, Ladonna Tucker, Barbara Graham, Jan Johnson and Estella Farnsworth. Darlene Francis placed 1st the photo contest flower category. Congratulations Darlene…We are very proud of you..Our club collected 31 pounds of spaghetti for the Mustard Seed donation this month. I’m sure it will be appreciated.
Club officers were elected for the next year. They are as follows: President; Ladonna Tucker, Vice president; Deloris Wilson, Secretary; Estella Farnsworth, Treasurer; Jan Johnson, Health Motivator; Willa Jean Green, Continuing education, Eva Summers, Purposeful Reading; Eva Summers, Scrapbook; Lesita Snider, Family; April Stout and Market/membership; Ladonna Tucker.
Plans were made to present a donation next week to the Stonewood Fire Department. Heritage today was brought by Ladonna; a beautiful picture embroidered on a burlap type fabric by her mother over 50 years ago; also Deloris brought a Stagecoach bank known as a Still bank (the 2 categories of banks were Still banks and mechanical banks) that was given as a reward from Union National Bank for new accounts. The Still bank was made of ceramic or glass and the only way to get money out was to break it. The metal ones made it impossible for children to get the money without a key. CVH totaled 439 and books read were 17. The club will have lunch at the Parkette restaurant on August 1st. Lunch is alway enjoyable. The next meeting will be on August 21 2023.

The Stonewood CEOS club met on 8/21/2023 at the Congregational Missionary Church Annex. President Deloris Wilson called the meeting to order and welcomed the members. Roll call… present were Deloris Wilson, Ladonna Tucker, Estella Farnsworth, Lesita Snider, Eva Summers, Willa Jean Green, April Stout, Betty Shreves, and Darlene Francis. Absent: Jan Johnson and Barbara Graham. Devotions entitled Prayer for August was read by Eva Summers who also led the members in salutes to the American and WV flags. Willa Jean Green led the members in singing Yankee Doodle and Grand Old Flag. Minutes of last meeting were read by Secretary Estella Farnsworth and accepted as read. Ladonna gave the treasurer’s report in Jan Johnson’s absence, it was accepted and filed. The lesson today, entitled Point Pleasant: Land of History and Mystery was given by Eva Summers, some notable facts are the Battle of Point Pleasant in 1774, Cornstalk’s Curse supposedly cast by Chief Cornstalk in 1777, Mothman; a birdlike creature supposedly chased a couple in 1966; and the Silver Bridge disaster in 1967 killing 46 people. Harrison County CEOS will take a trip to tour Point Pleasant on September 22. Purposeful reading report; Eva reported that the club donated 3 books to the Nutterfort Library and Deloris reported that she submitted 3 book titles to the state chair Judy Cowell for consideration to be added to the reading list. Deloris also gave a book report on “Bucket List” by Rachel Hanna. It is described as a funny women’s fiction saga that will make you smile, cry, and maybe make you want to go on an adventure yourself.
Health Motivator Willa Jean Green spoke about the nutrition value of berries and challenged the members to eat a variety of berries this summer. We also sang Happy Berries to You to the tune of Happy Birthday!
Some of the things that has kept our club busy this summer include; On July 24th we presented the Stonewood Fire Department with a donation for their fall kids activities; the donation was the proceeds of a special quilting project that we did this spring and summer ; in addition to the members present, the Mayor, Fire chief, and 2 firemen were in attendance. We also donated a quilt to the Stonewood Fire Department that was raffled off at their Firemen’s Festival on Aug 19; where we had a table set up to give information about CEOS, there were many inquiries about what we do. We also toured the Clarksburg Museum on August 15. If you haven’t taken the tour , you should…it is very informational about Clarksburg and has many, many displays that I’m sure you cannot see anywhere else. Taking the tour were Willa Jean, Deloris, Eva, Ladonna, April, Estella, Darlene, and Lesita; as well as Darlene’s husband Bill. We have also started visiting the local nursing home on the 2nd and 4th Monday to read to the residents; it has been a real success. On the last visit, Deloris read to the residents from an “old time” magazine and Darlene sang with the residents. Our next visit will be on Monday Sept 11. Heritage brought today : Darlene brought a children’s praise book that was over 100 yrs old and her grandpa’s hymnal written in Italian from the 1950s; the price noted in the book was 12 for $3.60 and also the Revival # 4 hymnal was $1.30. Those were really the days! Ladonna brought a black trinket/candy dish from the house that her mom was born in 1932 which contained a hand written note inside.
Books read this month 28 and CVH totaled 623.
