Imagine Christmas in the frontier days of old. Families gather together, bringing the best from their farms and kitchens. Fireplaces and stoves crackle with burning wood. Family and friends sing and experience joy together while remembering the birth of Christ and preparing to feast.
For almost a half a century, Fort New Salem has brought a taste of those days into modern times.
This December 2nd and 3rd, enjoy an educational and entertaining experience learning about Christmas from centuries gone by.
Learn about fun old traditions, such as the Belsnickle, whose story came with German immigrants to the region. Hear about how those who lived here relied on the sturdy walls of the blockhouse to both insulate from the wind and cold, but also protect settlers from unpredictable attacks. Crafts creators will demonstrate how to make wares from candles to maple cotton candy.
Live music in the traditional style will also warm hearts on a cold day.
Make sure to give the gift of joy and learning. Make Fort New Salem’s Spirit of Christmas part of the family tradition this year.
