Richard Frank “Dick” Allen, 78, of Shinnston, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Worthington, WV, on February 19, 1946, a son of the late Charles Albert Allen and the late Ella Mae Merrill Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Ellen Martin Allen, to whom he was married for 56 years; five daughters: Melissa Sue Beatty and her fiancé Yianni Daglis, Bridgeport, Cassandra Jeannette Fravel and her husband Kevin, Alpine Lake, Jaime Lyn Phillips and her husband Joe, Knoxville, TN, Charlsie Ryan Allen and her companion Nick Craver, Morgantown, and Erika Jade Allen and her companion Matthew Shaw, Wilsonburg; and Virgil Beatty who is loved like a son; his grandchildren: Becca Sue Meitl, Nicholas Richard Beatty, Cash Ericsson Coffman, Wyatt Jaimeson Coffman, Colton Levi Coffman, Trinity Sway Phillips, Mason Creel Cool, and Elliott Pearl Friend; his siblings, Charles Allen and Nancy Adams; his brother-in-law, Edgar Garnet Martin; a nephew, Edgar Garnet Martin Jr., and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by one sister, Sharron Robey.
Dick proudly began his service in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a sales representative for John Deere Equipment Company for over 20 years. He previously served as the Pastor of the Wallace United Methodist Church and Esler Chapel. He enjoyed creating memories and exploring the country with his bride, Sue Ellen. In his younger days, he raced Cross Country Motocross. He was also an avid outdoorsman and a true WVU Mountaineer fan. More than all of this, he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his girls and their children.
