Barbara “Barb” Ann (Long) Ferren, 77, of Shinnston, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at her residence. She was born in the community of Gaines in Upshur County, WV on August 15, 1946 to the Joseph “Joe” Andrew and Lily Ruth (Hamner) Long.
She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School. Barb had a fulfilling career in a variety of areas in the aviation industry. This ranged from management to worldwide parts distribution. She had a vast array of knowledge in aircraft that spanned over 40 years. She was also an outstanding CNA. She took great pride in helping her long-term residents and was incredibly caring of her patients daily. Upon retiring, she enjoyed being able to tend to her flower gardens, watching her birds, feeding the deer and wildlife near her home. She avidly followed politics, the news, liked antiques, yard sales and was interested in tracing her family ancestry. She loved to chat over coffee with friends and family and spending time with her beloved cat, “Katie.”
Barb is survived by one daughter, Jennifor “J.J.” Bobbins and husband Don; one son, Larry Gene Ferren and wife Kelly; three grandsons: Cory Bobbins, Jordan Bobbins and Joshua Ferren; two granddaughters: Christie Knotts and Holly Kallmerten; eight great grandchildren: Kitt Bobbins, Autumn and Luke Knotts, Brooklyn and Dayton Kallmerten and Brooklyn, Cadance and Eli Ferren; two sisters: Caroline Long and Rita Watson of and one brother, Basil Long.
In addition to her parents, Barb is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Eugene Ferren; seven brothers and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the family’s convenience to remember Barb and share smiles, love and gather in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be setting up an account at Wesbanco in Shinnston. Donations made will be given in Barb’s name to continue helping local wildlife rescues and animal shelters.
