Martha B. Raines, aged 89, gracefully entered eternal rest on May 10, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at her granddaughter’s home in Riviera Beach, Florida following an extended illness. Martha was born on April 11, 1935, to the late Wilbert and Mary Gordon Frum. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Martha is survived by her daughter Marsha Cook and husband Craig of Titusville, FL; Ernest Ray Raines and wife Bonita of O’Dells Knob; David Lee Raines and wife Sandy of Fairmont; Anna Layman and husband Joseph Paul (J.P.) of Fairmont; Sally Basnett and husband Phillip of O’Dells Knob. Her memory will forever be cherished by her grandchildren: Desiree Reavis and husband Chris of Riviera Beach Fl, Lisa Cook of Wilmington NC, Jacob Cook of Merritt Island Fl, Christopher Raines, Joseph, Matthew, and Justin Raines, Zachary Tucker, Nicholas Martin, Josh and Abigail Snoderly, Brandy Bumstead, Katie Basnett, and husband Chris, as well as Ashton Cook and several great-grandchildren , great -great grandchildren Chevie Reavis and Anastasia Woods. She is proceeded in death by her first husband Richard Deem who passed away in 1988, and Glenn “Bud” Raines who passed away in 2021. Her 5 brothers Jessie Frum, Rev. Charlie Frum, Davis Frum, Acie Frum, and Oscar Frum and 5 sisters Opal Frum, Anna Shingleton, Delsia Frum, Grace Markley, and Ethel Foster.
Martha retired from the Harrison County Health Department. In her final years, Martha found joy in the warmth of South Florida. She was a devoted fan, never missing her grandson Chevie’s football and baseball games. Martha learned to love the thrill of adventure, getting her passport at age 88 and eagerly embarking on her first international cruise in 2023 reminding us that it is never too late to enjoy life. Her vibrant spirit illuminated every gathering, making her the life of the party.
Martha’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to shine bright in the memories she created with her infectious laughter. She will be deeply missed. May she rest in eternal peace, and her legacy forever etched in the hearts of her loved ones.
The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 5-8pm, Friday. A funeral service will be held at Jewel City Church. 511 Jewel City Blvd, Meadowbrook, at 11am, Saturday, May 18, with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Mrs. Raines will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Enterprise.
