Curtis Ray Mead of Morgantown, West Virginia passed away suddenly on May 29, 2024 at the age of 58.
Curtis was a devoted husband to Rachel, a loving father to Kali (Jesse) Burkett, Colton Mead (Jane Peterson), and Jacob McIntire, a wonderful brother to Jeff (Becky) Mead and Cheryl (Paul) Kinney, a caring nephew to Betty Jo Morgan and cousin to Ryan and Stacy, a delightful uncle to many nieces and nephews, a diligent worker with 27 years of service to the FBI, a faithful deacon at Family Life Fellowship, a fishing buddy to some and a genuine friend to many, and most recently, a doting pappy to Charleigh.
Curtis was an avid outdoorsman who loved taking walks, kayaking, fishing, and hunting deer and turkey, though he never gave up hope of finding “Bigfoot.”
Curtis was proud of his time spent as a volunteer fireman and first responder.
He was the kind of man who would mow his neighbor’s yard or shovel their walk just to be helpful, hide his wife’s favorite candy in her desk drawer, and clean the debris from the church parking lot (though it was most likely an excuse to use his leaf blower).
He was a story teller who enjoyed a captivated audience – especially when telling the story of hitting the turkey while driving and flipping it over his car. Curtis was friendly and knew everyone, so his son liked to call him “the mayor.”
Curtis often cooked for his family and was famous for his fried fish, his spicy chili, and his new creation of meat lovers lasagna.
Curtis was not large in stature, but his absence has left an enormous void.
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Ray and Peggy Jean (Morgan) Mead, his uncle Jerry Lee Morgan, his nephew Michael Kinney, and his son Ashton Carter Mead.
His family invites you to celebrate his life resting in the knowledge he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Family and friends will be received at Family Life Fellowship Church, 124 Chestnut St., Enterprise, WV, on Monday, June 3, 2024 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm and on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 10:00am until 11:00am, time of service, with Pastor Aaron Thomas officiating.
Dorsey Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements for the Mead family.
