Thelma Mae McCarty, 81, of Lumberport, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at United Hospital Center. She was born September 21, 1943 in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Lloyd John and Bertha Tempest Leggett Cottrill.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Stephen Floyd McCarty Sr., who died November 17, 2019.
Thelma is survived by her children, Robin McCarty; and Stephen McCarty, Jr.; her grandsons, Jeffrey and Johnny Workman; her granddaughter, Jackie Hayhurst; her great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Davenport and Colton Hayhurst; her sisters, Alma Hayhurst and Mary Smith; and her brothers, Jack Cottrill and Carson Cottrill, Sr.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda McCarty; as well as 13 brothers and sisters.
As a devoted homemaker, Thelma enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and growing flowers and plants. She loved caring for her family and her dog, “Sammy”.
