Ruth Ann Van Slyke

Ruth Ann Van Slyke, 84, of Adamsville, passed away on February 21, 2025 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 12, 1940, a daughter of the late Hansford Charles and Grace Viola Kessel Boggs.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Darby; brother-in-law, Grover Darby; sisters-in-law, Brenda Boggs and Patricia Boggs; and grandson Joel Van Slyke.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Jack Leonard Van Slyke Sr., whom she married in 1969. She is also survived by her children, Tammy Milligan and husband Ken of Adamsville; Keith Duane Van Slyke and wife Tricia of Washington State; Cynthia Teresa Northrup and husband Donnie of Louisville, Kentucky; Jackie Leonard Van Slyke Jr. and wife Nancy of Adamsville; and Nesha Michelle Swanby and husband Arnie of Washington State; Grandchildren: Zachary Hill and husband Tom of Denver, Colorado, Dakota Milligan and wife Paulette of Monongah, Savannah Milligan Fisher and husband Gage of Weston, J.C. Van Slyke and wife Amber of Pittsburgh, Jeremy Van Slyke of Clarksburg, and Jesse Van Slyke of Butler, Pennsylvania; several great-grandchildren; brothers Charles and Harold Boggs; nieces and nephews: Janet and Kirby Jones, G.C. Darby, Dave McGuire, Kim and Todd Taylor, Lisa and George Tong.

Ruth graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston. She went on to be the co-owner of J & R Sporting Goods in Shinnston for over 40 years. Ruth enjoyed the outdoors and liked to spend her free time hunting, fishing, and gardening. She also loved flowers and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike Street, Shinnston, on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories in Charleston, WV. Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.perinefunerals.com.
