This week’s edition takes up to Morgantown for a round at Mountainview. Mountainview is the sister course of Lakeview and has seen vast improvements over the last several years. The added focus and attention have paid huge dividends in the overall condition of the course.
The Mountainview course opened in 1985 and was designed by Bryan Ault. It runs 6,447 yards from the blue tees and is a par 72.
It opens up with a pair of pedestrian par fours before the elevation changes begin. The par five third hole feels like a climb up Mount Everest, playing longer than the 514 yards on the scorecard. Elevation changes continue to be a concern for the remainder of the round. Well guarded greens also provide teeth to this track.
The greens are fast, but fair. Finding them in regulation can be difficult if you can’t find the fairway off of the tee. The rough is extremely punishing and brings big numbers into play every time you find it.
Mountainview is a straightforward course. What you see is exactly what you get, so a low score is right before your eyes. It comes down to execution and that is all a golfer can ask from a course. If you keep your eyes open, there are discounts available for Mountainview, making it a solid value this golf season.
