Volunteers helped to make a special day for kids involved with the CASA program.

Laughter, excitement, and the thrill of a first catch filled the air during CASA Kids Fishing Day, a heartwarming community event dedicated to giving local children in the CASA program an unforgettable experience.

Seventeen CASA kids spent the day casting lines, catching fish, and enjoying the outdoors thanks to the generosity of community volunteers and local organizations.

“This day was made possible by true angels on earth who gave their Saturday to make a difference in the lives of these kids,” said event organizer Marla Ferree. “It’s a perfect example of Harrison County’s heart for giving.”

The volunteers included:

Alisha Madia (CASA Director), Assessor Allen Ferree, City of Clarksburg Councilmen Wayne Worth & Marc Jackson, Julie Pratt, George & Michelle Leonard, Kathy Beverly, Susan Gaus, Mayor Robert Matheny & Mrs. Melissa Matheny, Curtis & Michelle Fleming, Johnnie Karakiozis, and Steve Glass.

Kiwanis of Clarksburg served as the primary sponsor, joined by Clarksburg League for Service and HOPE Lions Club. Kiwanis provided each child with their own fishing pole and tackle box, while Curtis and Michelle Fleming gifted a Bible to every child.

The kids enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring pizza, pepperoni rolls, brownies, and chips provided by Clarksburg League for Service, chicken strips from FOP Restaurant, and water donated by HOPE Lions Club.

Tom and Connie Gorrell sponsored the awards and medals for the day’s big catches. In total, 37 fish were caught and released, with trophies awarded for:

All the kids left with a fishing medal.

The League for Service also shared information about Amy’s Attic, a local program supporting families in need.

“This was more than a day of fishing,” Ferree added. “It was a day of community, kindness, and creating memories that these kids will never forget.”

Community members who are interested in volunteering or supporting local youth programs are encouraged to reach out to any of the participating organizations or volunteers.
