This week’s edition of Tee It Up landed us in Grafton for a tremendous day of golf at Tygart Lake Public Course. This 18 hole championship course is a par 72. It was established in 1967 and has been one of my personal favorites since I started golfing.
Throughout the years it has seen its share of changes and in the last few years several upgrades that have included new tee boxes that have elevated this already rock solid venue.
It is a tale of two nines with the front side more wide open, allowing players to settle into their round. It does own the signature hole, number seven, a gettable par three that is protected by water. One of the changes over the winter was the removal of the bridge which now gives an even more breathtaking panoramic view from the tee box.
The backside makes golfers grip their clubs a little tighter. Water comes into play on each of the first five holes with the last being the most intriguing. Number 14 is a par five with water a factor off of the tee. It’s a risk versus reward hole, the more aggressive the line off the tee, the better the scoring opportunity.
It’s as much about the people here as it is the course. This staff is as friendly and as knowledgeable as it gets. They are difference-makers that help to separate Tygart Lake from other venues.
more like a family reunion. It’s a warm and welcoming place to kick back and play back your round. A golf league, pool leagues, and golf simulator help to hone skills and build relationships. With several golf membership options, Tygart Lake Public Golf Course could be your new home!
