Featured this season at the Bice-Ferguson Museum is the Coal Corner. Coal mining has been and is one of the most important economic drivers of the area. Various items can be viewed including cap lights through the years and safety lights. A mine map from Robinson Run is displayed on the wall which shows just how big and complicated a mine can be. Celebrating the history of mining, the Museum will partner with the Shinnston Woman’s Club, sponsoring a historical actor to bring Mother Jones to life in November. Mother Jones was an important and controversial advocate for the unionization of the mines. The presentation will occur Sunday, November 16 th at 3:00 pm at the Shinnston Woman’s Club on Bridge Street. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
During the month of October, the Museum (downstairs)will continue to be open Thursday and Friday from 9-1. On Saturdays, the Shinnston Alumni Room and Museum (upstairs) will be open to the public 9-1. The upstairs is accessed on the Bridge Street side of the building and a stairlift is available for those with mobility issues.
