Mary Elizabeth Gump

Mary Elizabeth Gump, 96, of Wallace, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Dead Fall, WV, July 28, 1929, a daughter of the late Leonard and Muriel Eddy Higgins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Freddie C. Gump, whom she married, July 20, 1946.

Surviving are four children: Freddie J. Gump and his wife Mary, Nebraska, Susan Dianne Dye and her husband Roger, Wallace, Donald E. Gump, Sr. and his wife Nora, Wallace, and Kathy Holt and her husband Kenneth, Pleasant Valley; her grandchildren, Tim Gump, Steven Gump, Carol Norton, Rodney Dye, Rebecca Dawn Devano, Beau Gump, and Alaina McDonald; her great grandchildren: Rebekah, David, Rachel, Charlie, Colyn, Reece, Brody, Emily, Sofia, Sylvia, Antonia, Kenzie, Haleigh, Hunter, and Wyatt; her great-great grandchildren, Bentley and Wrenley, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter, McKenna Chapman; and her siblings: Billy Higgins, Ruth Greer, Pauline Swiger, Donald Higgins, Betty Gump, and two in infancy.

Mary enjoyed embroidery and loved her church, Wallace First Baptist Church, where she was a lifetime member. She read her Bible every single day and loved spending time with her family. She was loved by everyone that knew her.

The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm, Friday, December 26th with Pastor Keith Swiger officiating. Interment will be in the Wallace Lions Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.perinefunerals.com. The Perine Funeral Home is honored to serve the Gump family.
