James “Jim” Gump

James “Jim” Gump, 85, of Wallace, passed away on February 3, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Jesse and Helen (Trader) Gump of Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara (Zvonaric) Gump on January 10, 2026.

Jim is survived by one daughter, Debbie (Larry) Bennett; two sons: Joe (Melissa) Thrower and James “Jimmy” Gump, all of Wallace; four grandchildren: Mike Bennett, Doug (Koa) Bennett, Chad Thrower, Danielle Thrower and companion Justin Hickman all of Wallace; nine great grandchildren: Caemon, Casten, Kale, Reese, Judd Bennett, Matthew Barberio, Kara, Katie and Connor Hickman; one brother, Roger Gump of Wallace as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim is also preceded in death by four sisters: Frances Gump, Phylis Blake, Mary Barker and Karen Hall; two brothers: Luther Gump and Robert Gump.

James worked at Glory Coal Company, retired from Salem College maintenance department. He did masonry and carpentry by trade. He enjoyed family and friends, his woodshop and building cabinets.

The family would like to thank WVU Hospice for their compassion to our father and family.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00PM at The Bennett Cemetery on Big Elk in Wallace with Pastor Brian Price officiating.

Dorsey Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements for the Gump family.
