The Shinnston Woman’s Club held its monthly meeting at the Woman’s Club Building on Monday, November 21, 2016. Hostesses for the meeting were Carrie Mancino and co-President Debbie Starkey.
The program of the evening was presented by Commander Paul Kast of the Lincoln High School NJROTC. Lincoln is one of only two high schools, the other being Parkersburg, in West Virginia with a Navy ROTC unit.
Commander Kast told about the requirements to be in the NJROTC unit, how it is actually run by the Cadets, and the things they do. He also told about the trips they take to military bases and facilities that are paid for by funds raised by the Cadets, not with taxpayer funds. Thank you, Commander Kast, for informing the attendees about the NJROTC.
Earlier in November, the Shinnston Woman’s Club held its annual Ham & Bean dinner. Members gathered to make the beans & ham and the coleslaw and cakes were donated by various members. Many thanks to Brad Starkey for making the cornbread. Members would also like to thank the Lincoln Key Club and their sponsor Mrs. Matheny for their help with serving meals and cleanup work.
The annual fundraiser was a tremendous success thanks to wonderful community support. Thank you to all who came to dine in as well as those who ordered carryouts.
