It’s that time once again to acknowledge the efforts of Harrison County’s student athletes. Each week we will take a look back at the performances of the girls and boys from the six high schools (Bridgeport, Liberty, Lincoln, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd, and South Harrison) in our county. The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal Athletes of the Week is an avenue that is used to promote the youth of our county while bringing attention to their athletic accomplishments.
This past week’s winners are Robert C. Byrd’s Gillian Weaver and South Harrison’s Brent Barnette.
Flying Eagle basketball player Gillian Weaver led her team to a 2-1 record this past week (wins over Liberty and Herbert Hoover and a loss to Philip Barbour). Gillian scored 43 points on the week. She also recorded seven steals against Liberty and seven rebounds against the Huskies.
Hawk basketball player Brent Barnette helped his team to a 2-0 start with wins over Harman and Valley Wetzel. Barnette scored 19 points against the Panthers and 23 points against the Lumberjacks.
