Kathleen Carpenter Berry, age 90, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV.
She was born on July 31, 1926, at Erbacon (Webster County), a daughter of the late John “Doc” and Effie Wilson Carpenter.
In addition to her parents, Kathleen was proceeded in death by her husband, Arthur Milton Berry, and two brothers, James E. Carpenter and Harold “Bato” Carpenter.
Ms. Berry is survived by one sister, Betty J. Lewis of Erbacon, WV; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Carpenter of Cowen, and Helen Carpenter of Smithville, OH; nine nieces and nephews, Stephen Willis, Susan Chericalo, John Carpenter, Kathy Shrout, Michael Carpenter, Kimberly Porter, Debby Phebus, Patricia Conley and Pamela Poff. Additionally, Kathleen is survived by several great-nephews and -nieces living in various parts of the country. She shared a special bond with her great-nephew Robert Myers and great-niece Morgan Poff because they were able to visit her frequently.
Kathleen was a graduate of Cowen High School and the WV Business College. She went on to become a right-of-way agent with the Harrison County Department of Highways, where she retired after 42 years of service. Kathleen was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksburg, where she loved volunteering and spent countless hours over the years doing so. Ms. Berry was a 62-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Esther Chapter No. 11 Bridgeport. She enjoyed crochet, shopping and spending time with her family. Although Kathleen never had children, she was a mother figure to her many nieces and nephews who were like her children. She was a wonderful and loving wife, sister, aunt and friend.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the workers of Crestview Manor for their care given to Kathleen in her last years, especially Dawn, Donald and Sam.
