At noon on Wednesday, July 1st, Shinnston City Council met in Council Chambers to swear in those elected on the City’s May 12, 2026 ballot. City Clerk Kathleen Panek gave the oath of office and oversaw the signing of required paperwork to the following: Andrew Kisamore, Kimberly Howell, Patrick Kovalck, Julia Currey, and Rodney Strait.
The meeting continued with nominations and voting for the positions of Mayor and Vice-Mayor. Councilperson Mary Ann Ferris moved that Kovalck retain his position as Mayor, seconded by Councilperson Rodney Strait. Voting unanimously passed this selection. Julia Currey moved to name Rodney Strait as Vice-Mayor, seconded by Andrew Kisamore; Voting was again unanimous. Meeting adjourned.
Mayor Patrick Kovalck will be serving his 4th term as Mayor of the City of Shinnston. He commented, “I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Shinnston. I will continue to work with our Council to move Shinnston forward and to make our residents proud.”
Newly elected Vice-Mayor Rodney Strait said he looks forward to working with Council members and the mayor. “I have fully supported Mayor Kovalck in the past, and will continue to do that,” he added. “My hope is that we can continue to improve our infrastructure and increase business in Shinnston.”
