It’s finally that time of year. The 1st installment of Tee It Up!
Our first trip of the golf season took us just outside of Philippi to the Barbour Country Club. This club has been a long standing tradition as the lone golf course in Barber County. The Barbour Country Club opened in 1957 and is a semi private course. In the last several years, there have been several significant improvements that have added to the difficulty of this nine whole tract. The addition of a pond on holes 2 and 11 has forced golfers to make decisions on what club to use off of the tee.
Hole number 15 has an added tee box making the shot off the tee one of the most intimidating you will find in the area. The hole becomes a lengthy par 5 with trees lining the right side of the dog leg, right hole. There are several sets of tees providing a challenge for golfers of all levels.
The greens are firm and fast, and the overall condition of the course is very impressive, considering the time of year. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the 19th hole offers a laid back venue to review year round. The price is right here, and you will definitely get your money’s worth at this hidden gem. Before you give them a call, they do have several fun tournaments that are open to the public. Barbour Country Club is a place worth visiting this golf season.
