Tee It Up!

This week’s edition of Tee It Up takes us to Morgantown where we find the Mountainview Course of the Lakeview. The resort itself owns two 18 hole courses on two different tracts of land.

The Mountainview course was designed by Bryan Ault and opened for play in 1985. It is a relatively newer course compared to most in North Central West Virginia. It ranges 6,447 yards from the tips and it owns four sets of trees providing a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Narrow fairways, elevation changes, and extremely thick and punishing rough provide the teeth for this par 72-18 hole course. Throw in some well-placed bunkers and slick greens to go in conjunction with some lengthy par fives and the challenge is on in Mo-Town.

The number one handicap is the par five third that plays 514 yards from the blues. The number three handicap hole is the 505 yard par five ninth hole. The round ends with the longest of the day, the 549 yard 10th which is the sixth toughest on the course. All of the par fives also require accuracy off of the tee or you might as well hand over your lunch to this monster because it is taking it one way or another!

The par threes (numbers four, six, 14, and 17 are shorter with the exception of the last) The 17th is the signature hole in my eyes. It is 200 yards and the huge elevation drop downhill through the tee is spectacular.

Mountainview is in great shape and the price is right. It’s the cheapest 10 hole public course in Mon County with a high level of quality located within minutes of Touchdown City. You will score big (one way or another) with a round at Mountainview Golf Course.
