Shinnston Lions Club members expressed their thanks for all the hard work
they do throughout the year.

Last Friday, August 8th, members of the Shinnston Lions Club gathered at Ferguson Memorial Park’s largest pavilion to welcome all of the City of Shinnston’s staff, including Public Works employees, the police force, and members of City Council for a picnic lunch (catered by Casey’s).
This has become an annual summer event since it was first launched seven or eight years ago. Shinnston Lions Club President David Minor stated, “Our main reason for doing this is just to show our appreciation for what they do for our community. Too many times, they may receive criticism, and their hard work often receives little thanks. This gives our club members the opportunity to link up and connect with them, and, more importantly, to show our gratitude for the many tasks they perform throughout the year.”
Lions Club International is a “Lions” global volunteer organization, and while members do work to strengthen good will among countries worldwide, Shinnston Lions members place a great deal of emphasis on trying to support their own local community.
Lions Club International’s motto is short and sweet – “WE SERVE”! They selflessly help those in need regardless of who they are, where they’re from, or what the need entails. Although their purpose is to serve others, Shinnston Lions are also eager to express their appreciation to those who serve them in this community with their time and efforts.
The picnic as always drew a large crowd, and thankfully, the picnic was enjoyed rain-free! Both Mayor Patrick Kovalck and City Manager Tori Drainer offered their sincere gratitude for the City employees’ dedication and work ethic. They also thanked the Lions Club members for their continuous support and involvement in the community and its activities.
Next on the Shinnston Lions’ agenda is the club’s annual mop & broom sale to be held either before the end of August or in early September. This will be followed by their hosting of the community’s annual parade and salute to veterans in November.
