As the Harrison County Economic Development Corporation readies for its August 26 Annual Meeting in Clarksburg, it shared updates on critical projects for the area.
First, the new terminal at North Central West Virginia Airport in Bridgeport will open soon after the completion of a $3.3 million job to pave the adjacent parking lot. This served as the final major project before the planned opening later this month.
Airport Director Rick Rock told Connect Bridgeport that “August 17 is the day we’ve settled on for the grand opening and ribbon cutting with actual operation out of the new terminal August 18.”
He was also quoted by Connect Bridgeport as praising local individuals and West Virginia businesses for assistance and support. Rock added “I’m proud of my team . . . knowing what this means to the community and West Virginia is satisfying.”
The same publication reported that Pratt and Whitney inked a $1 billion contract to modernize and overhaul engines for T-6 trainer aircraft in the U.S. Joint Primary Aircraft Training Fleet. These aircraft use an 1,100 horsepower turbo-prop engine. According to the United States Air Force, the T-6A Texan II trains “students in basic flying skills common to U.S. Air Force and Navy pilots.”
Aviation International News reported that “Pratt and Whitney Canada’s facility in Bridgeport, West Virginia, has maintained PT6A engines for more than four decades. The new contract marks the location’s second engine refurbishment award for the U.S. Government.”
The contract will cover 750 aircraft. Pratt and Whitney employs about 500 in its Bridgeport facility at North Central West Virginia Airport.

Charles Point is under consideration for the headquarters, reported West Virginia Metro News. Considerations include West Virginia’s history of service and sacrifice, including in Vietnam, as well as the low cost of living relative to other states.
Another facility may go to the Eastern Panhandle to serve as support for the DC office “to house the folks that lobby the U. S. Congress,” added Warner.
HCEDC also highlighted the completion of a sidewalk project at the Harrison County Courthouse by Militia Men Concrete LLC, the Clarksburg Water Board making progress on two major infrastructure projects, and the continued economic impact of summer tourism and outdoor recreation on the North Central section of the state.
