Veldia May Hess

Veldia May Hess, 84, of Reynoldsville, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was born in Clarksburg, August 18, 1942, a daughter of the late Sewell Neil and Ernestine Lena Moore Day. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Hess, Sr., whom she married March 25, 1967; and a son Jason Hess.

Surviving are three children, Marsha Gamble and her companion Robert Winfrey, Clarksburg, Charles E. Hess, Jr. and his wife Amber, Clarksburg, Jeff Hess and his wife Michelle, West Milford; six grandchildren: Lena Gamble and her companion Jay, Christopher Gibbs and his wife Ashlee, Carrie Cox and her husband Jeffrey, Logan Hess, Nicholas Hess and his wife Christina, and Hope Hess; six great grandchildren: Lloyd Stevens, Mason Cox, Sarah Cox, Ivy Hess, Emberlee Gibbs, and Rowan Gibbs.

Veldia retired from the United Hospital Center where she was a switchboard operator. She was also previously employed with Anchor Hocking Glass. She enjoyed watching police dramas, especially Law & Order SVU, and doing her puzzle books. She was a member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm, Thursday, October 1st with Pastor Jon Hayes officiating. Interment will be in the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to defer the cost of funeral expenses at https://www.tmcfunding.com/funds/veldia-m-hess/17273/ Condolences may be extended to the family at www.perinefunerals.com. The Perine Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hess family.
