Recently I wrote in one of my columns about how important it is to know the value of patience if we’re considering having children. It begins with sleepless nights and continues to challenge us through the active toddler years, into the teenage years … and beyond! And don’t forget that patience will likely be a lifetime necessity for all of us – even as adults!
It has been said that patience is one of the greatest virtues … and that is probably an understatement!
Here are a couple of examples. We cannot plant a flower seed and expect to see a beautiful bloom tomorrow. Nor can we make a wish at night and expect it to be granted by morning. No matter what it is we are dealing with, a positive result is likely to take some time; so remain calm and don’t lose patience! Don’t allow yourself to become stressed, anxious and aggravated. That is an unhealthy reaction because for every minute you feel that way, you are losing sixty seconds of happiness.
Just a couple more illustrations … Think about a renovation you want to do; it begins, BUT you find it annoying to have your regular routine disrupted … you dislike the constant noise of power tools buzzing … and you loathe the dust it creates! You must cope by remaining patient and understanding that every transformation requires some time to get from the starting line to the finish line. And one final reminder … that it takes a blend of colors and many small brushstrokes to produce a beautiful work of art. Don’t become disgusted; remain patient and focus instead on the end result.
