Elby Diamond Jr. of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Wayne County, West Virginia, on August 1, 1923, a son of the late Elby and Carolyn Wellman Diamond, Sr.
He was married to Norma Pauline Ferguson Diamond on May 11, 1946, who preceded him in death on October 27, 2012.
Surviving are one daughter, Jane D. Simmerman and her husband Frank E. Simmerman, Jr. of Bridgeport; one grandson, Frank E. (Trey) Simmerman, III and his wife Dr. Miranda King Simmerman of Bridgeport; and one granddaughter, Rebecca W. Simmerman of Bridgeport.
Mr. Diamond retired from Goodyear Chemical located in Apple Grove, WV. He was a United States Army Air Corps, 90th Bomber Group veteran who served throughout the Pacific Theater during World War II, including flights over Japan during hostilities.
It was fitting that he passed on Veterans Day, listening to swing sounds of Cab Calloway and others. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Clarksburg, WV. He was also a loyal member of the Masonic Lodge with his latest membership in the Friendship Lodge 56 A.F.&A.M. at West Union.
