Betty Ann Golden, 93, of Clarksburg, WV, departed this life on a beautiful West Virginia afternoon, Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the United Hospital Center.
She was born on May 25, 1923, in Wolf Summit, WV, a proud daughter of William McKinley Hurst and Gladys Pitts Hurst.
Betty worked for many years and retired from C&P/Bell Atlantic/Verizon Company. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 573. After retirement, she volunteered at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Medical Center and was always a patriotic, loyal supporter of our veterans. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Betty was known for her feisty, spirited fun loving personality. She was a strong, independent woman and a role model to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and all who knew and loved her. She loved the outdoors, her little flower garden and front porch, her friends and family, and was especially proud to be a West Virginian; she believed there was no place more beautiful than the West Virginia hills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Golden; her beloved parents, William and Gladys Hurst, two children; Sharon Rae Ann Dennison, and Jon Francis Kelley; one brother, William “Bill” Hurst; and two sisters, Beryl Hurst Dunn, and Buena Carol Hurst.
Betty is survived by two children, Elizabeth M. “Beppie” Madison and her son-in-law Victor S. Madison, with whom she shared a special friendship, and Margaret “Peggy” Campbell and son-in-law James Campbell; eight grandchildren, her beloved granddaughter, Frankie Michelle Dennison, Frank Lance Dennison, Michael Blaine Dennison, Melissa Jo Campbell, Stacey Lynn Cornhoff, Brian Sanders Madison, Rodney Aaron Madison and Clifton Kelley; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Robinson, Bernita Earp and Beverly Sue Marks; one brother, Barry Richard Hurst; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
