‘A Head of Style’ has opened its doors in the Barrick Centre in Shinnston.
In fact, owner Leigh Ann (Amos) Holt occupied a different spot at the Barrick Centre several years ago (called Curly’s).
Leigh Ann says that she is pleased with the welcome she has received since her opening on January 3rd.
“It was a good way to start the new year! And business has picked up with each passing week.”
She is not new to the styling profession. She has 21 years of experience! She worked for a time in Bridgeport when she was first licensed, but since 1998, she has been on her own.
“I took a break from styling for a few years and became a CNA and worked at both the Veterans Hospital and United Hospital Center. But at the same time I was doing hair in my ‘spare time’ at home so I really never left the profession. It got to be too much so I decided that I needed to choose just one career – – and I chose styling,” she said.
Because of the response she has received in just her first few weeks, she is already considering adding another station! What a nice problem to have!!!!
Last week was billed as her “Grand Opening Week”, and she celebrated it by offering special pricing on different services each day of the week. The week ended on Friday with a special event she called “Ladies Day Out”. That day was extremely busy: she styled hair for visitors; her sister did makeup; another friend exhibited jewelry; and another featured a clothing line!
“It was so successful, I may just feature a “Ladies Day Out” once a month,” she said. “We had lots of people stop by, and it was fun. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was something unique!”
Services offered at ‘A Head of Style’ include cuts, styling, color, specialty colors, and highlights. The one thing she doesn’t do is perms. The salon is not exclusively for women … kids and men are welcome to make appointments too.
Leigh Ann wants the business to become a full-service salon.
“Because there are no tanning salons in the local area, I have put in a tanning bed, and dependent upon the demand, I may add another in time; I have the space for it. Tanning plans are available – 6 visits for $25; 12 visits for $45; 20 visits for $75; and 30 visits for $95. Patrons will have a year to use up their visits.”
She is also considering the addition of a manicurist. “I want to offer as much as possible for the convenience of my patrons. By offering a lot of different services under one roof right here in the community, my customers can do it all with just one stop … and no need to travel far,” she added.
Her new location has been home to several businesses through the years. Leigh Ann, with the support of her family members, worked for a month to get the salon ready for its opening. It was thoroughly cleaned, painted from top to bottom, and new flooring was added throughout. A little construction here and there, some electrical work and plumbing work to meet her salon needs, a few personal touches, and ‘A Head of Style’ is now OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
