Jerry Thomas’ West Virginia Sports Promotions team are completing final preparations for the 38th Annual Budweiser Toughman Contest, that will be held this Friday and Saturday nights, at the Nathan Goff Armory in Clarksburg. Event sponsors are Chenoweth Ford, R.G. Motor Sports, Bridgeport Express Care, North Central WV Airport, Harrison County Ems, Rocko’s Liquor Wine And Beer, Kelly’s Irish Pub, RDR Energy Resources, Bad Lizard Granite And Quortz, 97.9 WKKW and 5 News WDTV.
In addition to all the action and excitement that Toughman delivers every year, this year fans will be treated to a special “Battle of the Champions” fight on Saturday night, when Samantha Pill of Shinnston takes on Laura Byrnes of Charleston. Both fighters are former “two time” Toughwoman champions. Also on Saturday night there will be a pro bout on the card that will feature two former two time Toughman champions “Iron” Mike Snider, (10-4-3) of Flemington versus “Dirty” Don Pennington, (9-0-1) of Huntington. The fight is scheduled for eight rounds and is for the vacant WV State super middleweight 168lb title.
Advance ticket sales have been very strong, however good seats are still available and will remain on sale through Friday at 12:00 noon at R.G. Motor Sports in Nutter Fort, Speedway Stores in Bridgeport and Nutter Fort, and Rich Oil Store in Clarksburg. Tickets will be sold at the door, with doors opening at 6:30 pm. The event will start at 7:30 pm both nights, with the presentation of the colors by the United States Marines and the singing of the national anthem by Whitney Olivero of Clarksburg.
The event has been sanctioned and will be supervised by the West Virginia State Athletic Commission. Commissioners Leon Ramsey and Dr. Tim Peasak are scheduled to be at ringside.
