ANTONIO “DODY” SPAGNUOLO
Antonio “Dody” Spagnuolo, 77, of Shinnston passed away suddenly on February 24, 2017, at his “happy” place, his gas station “Spags,” with his sons beside him.
He was born February 25, 1939, in Gypsy, WV, to the late Antonio and Lucy Moschella-Spagnuolo.
Dody is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Mary K. Talerico-Spagnuolo; five children, who worshipped and adored him, Lucy Renee Spagnuolo of Jacksonville, FL, Simeon Anthony Spagnuolo and wife Frankie Jo of Vero Beach, FL, Melissa Ann Spagnuolo-Lupinski and husband Gary of Lake Mary, FL, Mario Brian Spagnuolo and wife Lora of Bridgeport, WV, and Eric “Jason” Belcastro and wife Jaime of Shinnston, WV; and his most loyal friend in this world, his dog, Duke.
He leaves behind the joys of his life, 11 grandchildren, Breanna Bart, Zachary and Alec Spagnuolo, Mikayla and Olivia Lupinski, Antonio, Elizabeth and Lucca Spagnuolo, Anthony Belcastro, Kyler and Tyus Smallwood; two great-granddaughters, Isabella Gump, Zoey Palmer.
One infant granddaughter, Brittnai Bart, preceded him in death.
Dody was one of 13 children; he is survived by his sister, Carmella Ewart and husband Jack of Good Hope, WV; one brother, Ralph Spagnuolo and wife Viviane of Shinnston, WV.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Edrick, Roger, Louie, Pete, Joey, Neil, Manuel, Antonio, Jr.; two sisters, Mary and Anna Mae.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Dody owned and operated Spag’s gas station and Spag’s Bail Bonds on Chestnut Street in Clarksburg for over 40 years. He was an excellent mechanic and serviced several local businesses and friends in the Clarksburg area.
Dody was a veteran, having proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was an avid racing fan and bore a striking resemblance to the legendary Dale Earnhardt, who just happened to be his favorite driver of all time! Dody built and raced dirt track cars for many years and also instilled his love of racing in his sons.
He was an animal lover, always rescuing homeless pets.
Two of the things his family loved about him were his huge and compassionate heart, and that he was funny and didn’t know he was funny!
He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many, and our lives are forever better for having him in them. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him.
Family will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike Street, Shinnston, on Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 10 a.m. — 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. with Father Akila Rodrigo, celebrant. Interment will follow in Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and U.S. Air Force.

BETTY LOU DUCKWORTH MCINTYRE
Betty Lou Duckworth McIntyre, age 89, went to be with the Lord following an extended illness on February 20, 2017. Betty was born on December 7, 1927 in Marmet, West Virginia in Kanawha County. She spent most of her early years in Webster County. Later she moved with her husband and seven children to Marion County and then finally to Harrison County. Her beloved grandmother Ella and grandfather Joseph Rankin raised her until she met and married her high school sweetheart, Elton E. Duckworth.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Sylvia Irvin Sexton; her first husband, Elton; her son, Richard Duckworth; her second husband, Jackson McIntyre; her brother, James Irvin; stepson, Richard McIntyre; two infant children; and four grandchildren.
She leaves behind sons, Roger and wife Sharon Duckworth of Worthington; Allen and wife Brenda of Worthington; Michael and wife Marsha of Shinnston; Charles and wife Sarah of Lumberport; daughters, Marsha and husband Jay Riley of Shinnston; Tamela and husband Bill McMurray of Newark, Delaware; and daughter-in-law, Linda Duckworth of Columbus, Ohio. Eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren also survive. Her sister Mary Perkins of Rachel and brother Robert and wife Doris Irvin of Bowling Green, Florida survive as well.
Betty enjoyed camping, traveling, and bird-watching from her back porch. She was a member of the West Virginia Pioneer Travelers, Order of the Eastern Star, Woman’s Club of Shinnston, and the Amstead Friendship Club. She attended the First Baptist Church of Shinnston.

LORETTA LOIS (VANHORN) MCCLAIN
Loretta Lois (Vanhorn) McClain, age 81, of Mt. Clare, WV, went to meet her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2016, at United Hospital Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 5, 1935, in Gilmere County, WV, the daughter of the late Rufus Vanhorn and Ina (Summers) Vanhorn.
Loretta is survived by her husband of 63 years, James R. McClain whom she married on July 3, 1953; three sons, James L. McClain and his wife, Carol, Wilford T. McClain and his wife, Jill and Philip E. McClain; seven grandchildren, Timothy, Zach, Ashley, Christy and Tesla McClain, Marsha Stanton and Greg Langford; 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Loretta was also preceded in death by her two sons, Jeffrey P. McClain and Mark A. McClain; three sisters and a brother.
Loretta worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and was an EMT with Harrison County Emergency Squad. She was a loving and caring woman dedicated to her family and her faith.
JAMES WILLIAM “JIM” BEVERLY
James William “Jim” Beverly, age 87, of Flemington, WV, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
He was born on October 16, 1929, in Shinnston, a son of the late John Russell and Lena Irene (Stonebreaker) Beverly.
James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia F. (Dean) Beverly, as well as their children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
In honoring Mr. Beverly’s wishes, private services will be held for his family. Interment will take place at the Bridgeport Cemetery.
SAMUEL JOSEPH BRUNETTI II
Samuel Joseph Brunetti II, 58, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Monday December 12, 2016, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
He was born in Clarksburg, WV on June 13, 1958, a son of the late Samuel Joseph and Mary Lou Petrigac Brunetti.
Sam was a great man with a huge heart. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. Sam was devoted to his faith in Catholicism, and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Sam enjoyed building computers and was an RC hobbyist as well as an amateur radio enthusiast. He loved animals, watching football and movies, and spending time with his family. Sam worked as a Computer Aided Draftsman in Clarksburg and enjoyed running his own business. He had many longtime clients, of which many became his close friends.
Sam was a devoted father and best friend to his son Samuel Joseph Brunetti III and his wife, Amber Brunetti of Morgantown, WV. He is also survived by former wife and friend, Brenda Richards, his sister, Samantha Brunetti, his stepbrother, Jeff McIntyre; as well as his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other friends.
He was also predeceased by his brothers, Joe Brunetti and Matthew Brunetti.
NAIOMA LEE HARBERT
Naioma Lee Harbert, age 73, of Stonewood, WV, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at United Hospital Center.
She was born August 14, 1943, in Clarksburg, WV, the daughter of the late James Rolland Henning Jr. and Wanda (McClain) Henning.
Naioma is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Harbert of Stonewood, WV; a son, Michael Harbert and his wife Mary of Clarksburg, WV; two grandchildren, Michael Harbert and Derrick (DJ) Harbert; four sisters, Mary Long and her husband Rodney of Stonewood, WV, Clista Sprouse and her husband Ronald of Stonewood, WV, Sylvia Childers and her husband Cecil of Stonewood, WV, and Wanda Kelly and her husband Bob of Bridgeport, WV; a brother-in-law, Robert Harbert of Akron, Ohio; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Sandra Sandy of West Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Naioma was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Rolland Henning, and a sister, Peggy Henning.
Naioma retired after 25 years of service from Eagle Convex. She attended the Upper Room Church in Clarksburg. Naioma was a licensed minister by the Board of Directors of Greater Works Outreach.
JUDY M. NICHOLSON
Judy M. Nicholson, age 70, of Clarksburg, departed this life suddenly Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at her residence.
She was born October 5, 1946, in Smithfield, WV, a daughter of the late Winfield Conoway Cain Sr. and Helen Virginia Wright Cain.
Her husband, Richard L. Nicholson, preceded her in death November 9, 2013.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathy Currey and her husband Edward of Clarksburg; one son, John Christopher Nicholson of Clarksburg; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda A.E. Bowen of Stonewood, and Rosemary V. Second and her husband James of Sun Valley; two half brothers, Winfield C. Cain Jr. of Clarksburg and David E. Cain of Clarksburg; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one great-grandchild.
Judy was a graduate of Washington Irving High School. She was retired from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources as an Administrative Assistant with over 35 years of service. She was a member of the E.C. Church at Oakmound and loved spending time with her family, shopping and crocheting.
RANDY LEE CUMBERLEDGE
Randy Lee Cumberledge, 39, of Wallace, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 11, 2016.
He was born August 22, 1977, in Sistersville, WV, a son of Dewayne and Linda Cumberledge of Wallace and Patty Yeager Cumberledge of Crestline, OH.
Randy is survived by his wife, Beth Serback Cumberledge of Lumberport; although they were not together at the time of his death, they remained friends. Also surviving are two sons, Isiah Cumberledge of Flatwoods, Ethan Cumberledge of Lumberport; one brother, Richard Cumberledge of Crestline, OH; one stepbrother, Jr Santos of Wallace; three stepsisters, Elizabeth and Ann Marie Santos, both of Morgantown, Debra Cabrera of Chicago; several aunts and uncles.
In his free time, Randy enjoyed playing guitar. He was self-taught and enjoyed playing classic rock and heavy metal. He liked to play video games. Randy also loved to make people laugh. He was always quick with a joke or funny quip. He was always willing to help out a friend. Most importantly, he loved both of his sons with all his heart.
Randy was employed as a maintenance worker for Maple Terrace in Philippi. He also worked for National Oilwell Varco and Sandy’s Hardware.
JOSEPH J. GUZZI
Mr. Joseph J. Guzzi, 81 years of age, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at his residence.
He was born November 1, 1935, in Rosemont, WV, the son of the late Joseph and Rachel Morroco Guzzi.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ostronisky Guzzi. They had celebrated 57 years of marriage. He is also survived by two daughters, Tonya Rich and her husband Timothy of Morgantown and Stephanie Gill and her husband Burgo of Statesville, NC; four granddaughters, Jacqueline and Nicolette Rich of Morgantown, WV, Ashtin Gill of Raleigh, NC, and Kristalyn Gill of Greenville, NC; three brothers, Vincenico Guzzi and his wife Dorothy of Painesville, OH, Carl Guzzi and his wife Betty of Wilmington, OH and Gene Guzzi and his wife Patricia of Wilmington, OH; and two sisters, Mary Louk and her husband Richard of Cleveland, OH, and Brenda Moore and her husband Grant of Grafton, WV. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Dominick Guzzi, and one sister, Anna Rogucki.
He dearly loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his four granddaughters. Taking family trips to Myrtle Beach and working in his beautiful yard were his two favorite hobbies. He retired from Union Carbide Corp, where he worked for three decades and made many wonderful friends. He demonstrated strong faith in his life and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

- Mavis LaCaria, age 91, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at her residence.
She was born on April 27, 1925 in Whitehall, WI, a daughter of the late Henry B. and Mina (Thompson) Olson. Mrs. LaCaria was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Philip LaCaria on February 25, 2006.
Mavis is survived by her three children: Philip A. LaCaria and wife Elaine of Welch, WV; Perry A. LaCaria and wife Suzanne of Boca Raton, FL; and Pamela A. Cherubino and husband Carl of Powell, OH; a sister, Ila Mattson of Minneapolis; six grandchildren: Joseph A. Cherubino of Delaware, OH; Matthew A. Cherubino (Mike) of Delaware, OH; Peyton LaCaria (Christy) of Pompano Beach, FL; Sara LaCaria of Welch, WV; Mark LaCaria of Welch, WV; and Taylor Cartwright of Boca Raton, FL; two great-grandchildren: Pilar and Paloma LaCaria; and a brother-in-law, Frank LaCaria of Bridgeport. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mavis was preceded in death by one brother and several sisters.
Mrs. LaCaria was a homemaker most of her life, always putting her family first. She did work various retail jobs from time to time, including Montgomery Ward. Mavis was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she had belonged to the choir and served on the church council. She was actively involved with church and other activities like delivering meals on wheels when she was able and also was an avid Mountaineer fan. She was a loving mother who greatly enjoyed her family. Mavis was the last living member of her special group of lady friends, the “Golden Girls.”
JESSIE LORAINE GROSS SMITH
Jessie Loraine Gross Smith, 84, went to join her husband, Shirley Ervin Smith on December 14, 2016, following complications from Alzheimer’s. She passed away at her daughter and son in law’s resident in Newcomerstown, Ohio, with her daughter and son in law by her side.
Jessie was a former resident of Bridgeport, West Virginia, born in Shinnston, West Virginia, September 20, 1932, a daughter of the late Glenn Elwood and Dortha Martin Gross. On February 10, 1956, she married Shirley Ervin Smith who preceded her in death on December 26, 2013. Jessie leaves behind her daughter Brenda J. Smith Wise and her husband, Jeffery L. Wise, Newcomerstown, Ohio, two grandsons, Bryan Fasig, his wife, Connie, Parma, Ohio, Kevin Fasig, his wife Kelly, Medina, Ohio; 2 great grandson Tyler Fasig, Medina, Ohio and Connor Fasig, Parma, Ohio, and great granddaughter, Piper Fasig, Parma, Ohio.
Jessie was one of seven sisters and three brothers. Surviving are two sisters, Jean Harney, Fairmont, West Virginia and Susan Felosa and her husband Carl Felosa Jr. of Shinnston, West Virginia. Jessie also leaves behind two sisters in law, Virginia Gross of Shinnston, West Virginia, and June Milkovich and her husband Steve of Fairmont, West Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Jessie was preceded in death by her son Mark Allen Smith, sisters, Pauline Gross O’Connor, Glendine Gross, Mary Gross Salerno, Judy Gross; three brothers, William Jack Gross, Glenn Wayne Gross, and Charles Gross; and brothers-in-law Harold O’Connor, Joseph Salerno, and Millard Harney.
Jessie had been employed by Aileen and Mary Jo Lucas to help care for their house and help care for them in their later years.
Jessie was a very hard working woman, who like to keep her house clean. She enjoyed cooking and baking, playing the piano at church in her younger years, and working word search puzzles.
