RAYMOND LARRY WOLFE
Raymond Larry Wolfe, age 72 of Burke, Virginia, passed away on February 19, 2017 from complications related to COPD.
Raymond was born in Wallace, WV to Frank and Opal Wolfe. Despite enjoying the countryside, Raymond moved to Northern Virginia in 1963 and with the tireless work ethic instilled in him while growing up on his family’s farm, he was a successful business owner for nearly 50 years with his business partner and brother Jim.
While in Virginia, Raymond married Patricia, whom he had known since childhood and raised two sons, James and John. During his free time, he enjoyed the company of friends and family. His most enjoyable past time was fishing from his boat on the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay and on charter boats in the Atlantic. He also enjoyed listening to country music and watching classic westerns. Raymond was a proud member of the Columbia Lodge, American Legion and Kena Temple and a 32nd degree Mason.
Mr. Wolfe is preceded in death by his son James.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, one son and three grandchildren.
Services were held at Fairfax Memorial Park on Sunday, February 26, 2017 and a reception, in celebration of Raymond’s life, was held at the Lord of Life Church.
OLIVER NELSON SHEPPARD
Oliver Nelson Sheppard, 77, of Shinnston, WV, formerly of Connecticut, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016, at his home.
He was born July 31, 1939, in Emoryville, WV, a son of the late Charles N. and Phyllis Laura Rhodes Sheppard.
Oliver is survived by his granddaughter, Sandra N. Booker and husband Emanuel of Waterford, CT; son-in-law, Kevin E. Chisler of Brooklyn, CT; his brother, Joseph Sheppard of Shinnston, WV; and sister, Phyllis E. “Betty” Arbogast of Gypsy, WV; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Sheppard of Killingly, CT; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Oliver was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine June Chisler, and his brother, Charles Sheppard.
Oliver served our country in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Anchor Glass.
WILLIAM E. “BILL” BOYD
William E. “Bill” Boyd, 62, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 16, 2016, at 5:45 at United Hospital Center in the People’s Hospice Unit with his mom and his stepfather, Brent Kennedy at his side.
He was born on August 11, 1954, in Clarksburg a son of Margaret Kennedy, Salem, and the late Denver Boyd.
Surviving is one daughter, Crystal Lybrook and husband Kevin, Akron, OH; one brother, Bradley Boyd and wife Donna, Salem; one nephew, Rev. Eugene Hill and wife Shannon, Decatur, IN; one great-niece, Eliana Hill; four great-nephews, Josiah Hill, Christian Hill, Chanz Hill and Tarrin Neel; three special aunts, Betty Swiger, Janice Hupka and Lena Thompson, several special cousins.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He attended the Open Door Tabernacle, Salem.
CARMA LEE CHILDERS
Carma Lee Childers, age 59, of Clarksburg, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 20, 2016, at the Salem Genesis Healthcare Center.
Carma was born on March 9, 1957 in Clarksburg, WV; a daughter of the late William C. and Martha L. (Pritchard) Childers.
Carma was a homemaker and devoted her entire life to taking care of her family.
Carma is survived by two sons, Robert Wolfe and companion Amy Adams of Clarksburg and William Wolfe of Fairmont; three sisters, Kay Martin and husband Steve, Jeanne Childers, and Louellen Smith and husband Gary, all of Clarksburg; three brothers, Jeff Childers and wife Lois, John Childers, all of Clarksburg, and Jan Childers and companion Leslie of Domono, Florida; two nephews, Shane and Ben Childers; and two nieces, Lindsay Jones and Sara Martin.
In addition to her parents, Carma was preceded in death by one sister, Cheryl Childers, and two brothers, Dick and James Childers.
Dr. CARL W. LIEBIG
Dr. Carl W. Liebig, 67, of Keyser, WV and formerly of Bridgeport, WV, passed away December 18, 2016, surrounded by his family. Carl was born in Cincinnati, OH, on February 6, 1949, to Dr. Carl A. Liebig and the late Jane Liebig of Keyser, WV.
He is also survived by his former wife, Delores Liebig of Bridgeport, WV; his four children, Jennifer Shanley and her husband Tom of Hillsdale, NJ, Teresa Lunsford and her husband Dave of Bridgeport, WV, Stephanie Storti and her husband John of Conshohocken, PA, and Dr. Christopher Liebig and his wife Julie of Poland, OH. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren he loved so much, Trent and Sara Shanley, Zachary and Matthew Lunsford, Johnny, Vincent, Marissa and Luciana Storti and Eliza, Ellie and Evelyn Liebig; his two brothers Dr. Craig Liebig and his wife Gail of Bridgeport, WV, and Paul Liebig of Keyser, WV, and his two sisters, Carol Marsh and her husband Tim of Buckhannon, WV, and Pam Nagel of Berlin, Germany, and many nieces and nephews. Carl was also preceded in death by a son, Brian Carl Liebig and a sister-in-law, Rita Liebig.
Carl was a 1967 graduate from Keyser High School. He attended Potomac State College and graduated with a doctoral degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1981. He established his first medical practice in Petersburg, WV, and in 1986 moved to Bridgeport, WV, to join a practice. He served the community until 2012 and then moved back to Keyser to be with his father and practice medicine.
Community and sports had been a big part of Carl’s life. He enjoyed supporting West Virginia athletics and was a coach of several youth sports in the Bridgeport area. He was often seen at many of the local school sporting events.
Carl loved his family and believed in helping those in need. His friends will remember his passion for politics.

SHIRLEY DYANN COLVIN
Shirley Dyann Colvin, age 78, of Spruce Avenue, West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Chester County Hospital Saturday evening, December the 17th, after a long struggle with “COPD.”
She was surrounded by her husband Charles Robert, two daughters, Dyann Lynn and Chris Ann Colvin, and our longtime, exceptional family doctor, Mary Lisa Gunning, M.D.
Shirley was born in Doddridge County, West Virginia, on Aug. 18, 1938, to Doris Irene (Wright) and Sebastian Femia, but was raised by her mother through her formative years. She then was blessed with her mother’s engagement and marriage to a much loved Norman Williams.
She proudly grew up in Shinnston, WV, and graduated from Shinnston High School. There, she enjoyed being a majorette in the band directed by the wonderful “Buck” Shaffer.
Shirley then went to seek a career in nursing by attending St Mary’s School of Nursing in Clarksburg, WV. She successfully worked in the nursing field until the year 2000.
She enjoyed going to the Conawingo Dam on the Susquehanna River to watch the American Bald Eagles soar and fish. She also enjoyed travels to Mexico and Europe with her husband, Charles, and cousin, Randy Williams.
Chris wrote: “Knowing that Dyann and I were so blessed to have such a beautiful soul as our mother and ‘Chuck’ to have a lovely wife and life-long companion. Mom truly made an impact on so many lives. She put her stamp on our hearts and made memories that will never be able to be taken from us. From that beautiful baby girl to accomplished nurse, loving wife and mother, and taking such great care of everyone she came across in her life’s path. It’s what she did. Mom did so much with her life and the years she was given.
“You, my family and friends, were so wonderful to our small family during the tough times and we’ll never be able to thank you enough for sharing in our grief. Her nurses at Chester County Hospital just loved her to pieces. For her birthday they even made her a cake, provided flowers and balloons.
“Mom and Dad did their very best to give us girls a beautiful childhood and I would not change one second of it.”
ROBERT LEE HUNTER
Robert Lee Hunter, 42, of New Quarters in Meadowbrook, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 18, 2016, at his home.
He was born on Nov 3, 1974, in Clarksburg, WV, a son of Robert H. Hunter of Meadowbrook and the late Helen Ganoe Hunter.
Robert is survived by his brothers, Steve Hunter and Tracy of Philippi, and Jeffrey Hunter of Shinnston; eight nieces and nephews: Monica Shaffer of Fairmont; Michael Hunter of Fairmont; Matthew Hunter of Fairmont; Chassidy Hess and Brandi Lynn Hunter of Clarksburg; Jeffrey Hunter and Trey Hunter of Shinnston and Logan Hess, in addition he is survived by six great-nieces.
Robert was employed by the Job Squad for 22 years. He was a new Harley-Davidson rider and had even purchased a new Harley-Davidson this year.
SHIRLEY SUE MURPHY
Shirley Sue Murphy, 74, of North View, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at her residence.
She was born July 21, 1942, in Clarksburg, WV; daughter of the late Charles and Flossie Layfield Kyle.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 54 years, Reverend Clyde Delmas Murphy; one daughter, Sandra Kay and Jack Glaspell of Clarksburg; one granddaughter, Amberly Rose Glaspell; one grandson, Ryan Michael Glaspell, both of Morgantown, WV; one brother, Edward Kyle and wife Noma of Wilsonburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Michael Delmas Murphy; one sister, Nora Stalnaker; four brothers, Donald, Charles, Ronald and John Kyle.
BETTY JUNE DAVIS COMPTON
After an extended illness, Betty June Davis Compton, 87, of Bridgeport, WV, went to be with her maker on December 21, 2016.
Betty was born on December 21, 1929, in Fairmont to Carly Glenn Davis and Catherine Margaretta Wetzel Davis Jarvis.
Betty was preceded in death by one brother, Carl H. Davis; her stepfather, James Curtis Jarvis; a husband, Andrew Joseph Stopiak; and a brother-in-law, Victor Moccia. Betty recently celebrated 51 loving years with her husband, Otha Compton Jr.
Betty is survived by one sister, (Glenna) Jean Moccia of Bridgeport. She is also survived by two children, Cathy Egan of Bridgeport and Andrea Alfred of Clarksburg, and two stepchildren, Gene Compton and his wife, Sherri, and Judy Compton Way and her husband, Joe, all of Bridgeport. Betty leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren, Shaun Egan, Stephanie Iaquinta (Alfred) and her husband, John, Richard Compton and his wife, Carla, Jonathan Compton and his wife, Loretta, Michelle Compton, George (Sonny) Todd and his wife, Elizabeth, Carl Todd and his wife, Kim, Jason Todd and Kerrie Hyman. Betty is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
Betty came from a very humble childhood and began her employment as a telephone operator before joining with her husband, Otha, in the ownership and operation of Compton Lanes.
Otha and Betty had a unique and special relationship that was an inspiration to those who knew them. They shared a love of golf, dancing, camping and attending WVU games in their RV, traveling and the outdoors, among many other things. Known for their look-alike style, their contagious laughter and witty exchanges made them a duo that others truly enjoyed being around.
They were faithful members of Bridgeport United Methodist Church and could be found in their special pew each Sunday. Betty was a constant example of faith and grace and brought joy to many with her beautiful smile and kind heart.
Betty, or Nonnie, as many loved ones knew her, was a loving, generous, classy and outgoing woman. She loved meeting new people and could make a stranger feel like family.
She won championships as a nine-hole golfer at Bridgeport Country Club, was a member of the Clarksburg Women’s Club and served in the Bridgeport Rotary Club. Many Rotarians remember her reigning as Valentine Queen for several years.
In the summer, she could always be found working in her many beautiful flower gardens, as this was one of her favorite pastimes. Betty was also an excellent chef and baker. She was an animal lover and was especially fond of the family dogs, Misha and Chloe.
She most enjoyed being surrounded by her family. May her legacy shine on through all those lives she touched. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to those women who assisted in her care during the last months of her life: Bridgette Blake, Dot Lucas, Betty Paqno, Savannah Blake, Nedra Forinash and Debbie Lipps, as well as hospice care.

SHARON JEAN ALLEN WALLS
Sharon Jean Allen Walls, 68, of Clarksburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in the Fairmont Regional Hospital. She was born in Fairmont on June 7, 1948, a daughter of the late Hoy Richard and Irene Powley Allen.
She was married to Jack Franklin Walls on March 29, 1972, who preceded her in death on April 12, 2001.
Surviving are one daughter, Valerie J. Walls and her companion Brad Shingleton of Buckhannon; one grandson, Stephen Tyler Franklin Shingleton; four sisters, Joyce Ann Allen of Georgia, Jennifer Elaine Bailey of Minnesota, Delilah “Kay” Allen of Mount Clare and Deborah Lynn Allen of Florida; and one brother, Michael R. Allen and his wife Rebecca of Eastover, SC.
Sharon attended the Christian Apostolic Church in Arlington Addition. She enjoyed collecting angels and doing puzzles. She also loved reading the Bible, going to church and listening to Christian music.
KAREN KAY RICHMOND
Karen Kay Richmond, 57, of Bridgeport, passed away at her residence on Wednesday morning, December 21, 2016. She was born May 6, 1959, in Ravenswood, a daughter of the late Samuel Bernard Richmond and Erma Gladys Richmond.
She is survived by her daughter, Bianca Richmond of Bridgeport; one brother, Leonard Richmond of Clarksburg; and two sisters, Myra Walters and her husband Arthur of Clarksburg and Nancy Mason and her husband Ralph of Enterprise.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Morgan Richmond and William Richmond; and two sisters, Jean Minks and Cathy Asher.
Karen was a graduate of Shinnston High School and also the WV Business College. She was employed by United Hospital Center as a secretary. She enjoyed making jewelry, bird watching and walking and hiking.
GERALD “JERRY” ALLEN WRIGHT
Gerald “Jerry” Allen Wright, 77, of Clarksburg passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016, after a brief illness at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Jerry was born March 3, 1939, son of the late Hartzel and Dona Wright.
He is survived by his wife, of 56 years, Ruth Darlene Bennett Wright; one daughter, Kimberly Susie and Robert Mellie of Clarksburg; one son, Gerald “Butch” A. and Jill Wright of Gallipolis, OH; eight grandchildren, Jessi, Kristin, Nick, Camryn, Spencer, Brady, Brook, Noel; five great-grandchildren, Hayden, Lucas, Keegan, Tripp, Riley; two sisters, Doris Ann Skelly and Norma Lee Garrett of VA; many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Wright; two brothers, Bill and Richard Fleming; one sister, Betty Mullenex.
Jerry was a retired truck driver with Mountain State Air Gas. He loved NASCAR, the outdoors, animals, birds and spending time with his grandchildren.
MAGGIE ELIZABETH PERKINS-VINCENT
Maggie Elizabeth Perkins-Vincent, 80, of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at her residence.
She was born March 20, 1936, in Galloway, a daughter of the late Creed Chipps and Mary Rowe Chipps.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Perkins, who passed away on November 14, 1967, and her second husband, Ellis John Vincent, who passed away on December 27, 2013.
Maggie is survived by her daughter, Peggy Jo Yates of Bridgeport and her companion Marty Snider; and her granddaughter, Patricia Shingleton of West Milford.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Patrick Chipps.
Maggie was a graduate of R-W High School, where she played softball. She was an avid sports fan and loved animals and arts and crafts.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends
GERALD D. ASHCRAFT
Gerald D. Ashcraft, 90, of Dola, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016, at United Hospital Center.
He was born October 26, 1926, in Wallace, a son of the late Letch and Martha Ice Ashcraft.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy H. Beverly Ashcraft; his daughter, Beverly Ashcraft; a sister, Willabelle Zinn; and brothers, Garlen, Harlin and Melvin Ashcraft.
Gerald retired from Compass Coal. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America as well as the Ten Mile Baptist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Leanne Ashcraft Murphy; a granddaughter, Shannon Ashley Murphy; grandson, Ryan G. Murphy; and two brothers, Harry Ashcraft of Austin, TX, and Duane Ashcraft of Parkersburg.
