The Wiseco ATV Motocross National Championship (ATVMX) presented by CST Tires, an AMA National Championship, is America’s most prestigious and longest-running ATV racing series. The 11-round circuit is set to continue this weekend, April 29 and 30, with round four at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania.

The ATVMX Series is the world’s premier showcase of four-wheeled off-road racing talent. The physically demanding sport forces riders to navigate a variety of obstacles as fast as possible over the course of two 20-minute motos, while controlling a 400-pound machine and battling alongside 20 other competitors. It is a true testament to the mental and physical strength that each racer puts in to the sport, creating some of the toughest athletes on the planet.

In the early 1970s, enterprising motocross race promoter Dave Coombs Sr. went on the search for the perfect motocross track. He had tried a couple of tracks in West Virginia, but they weren’t large enough to accommodate the riders and fans. Nonetheless, he continued his search for land. Coombs found the picture-perfect spot to host races in the fall of 1976 just across the state line above Morgantown, West Virginia, where he founded High Point Raceway. To this day, High Point Raceway continues to use parts of the original track layout that was created by Coombs, but the track recently underwent major renovations including relocating the starting gate and finish line. Next weekend will serve as the first ATVMX race on the new track.

This event also offers a great opportunity for local racers to showcase their talents in front of their hometown crowd. Hailing from Seneca, Pennsylvania, a mere two and a half hours north of High Point Raceway is Joel Hetrick. Hetrick comes into this round fresh off his three-race podium streak, where he finished second overall at the previous round in Alabama. The 2016 runner-up is currently ranked second, but will be looking to take over the points lead in front of his hometown friends and family.

Pennsylvania’s Joel Hetrick will contest for the win in the ultra-competitive AMA Pro class next Saturday.

Other local racers expected to compete next weekend will be: Josh Upperman (AMA Pro), Tristen Collum (450 B/Production B), Wes Lewis (Pro/Pro-Am), Grant Cain (125 8-15) and Jaron Cochran (Pro Sport/450 A).

Amateur racing will take place throughout the weekend alongside the AMA Pro class, and local riders are invited and encouraged to compete in the event, as ATVMX offers classes for riders of all skill and experience levels. Saturday spectator passes run $20 for adults and $10 for children (6-11), with kids five and under getting in for free. Each pass includes pro pit access and pro autographs at no additional charge.

RacerTV will provide a LIVE broadcast of the racing action from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. including both pro motos via www.racertv.com. A highlight show featuring the event will air on MAVTV on Saturday, June 17.

To get to the track from Morgantown take I-79 North to the Mount Morris, PA Exit 1. Once exiting the interstate turn right onto Bald Hill Road and continue for three miles and the road will veer into Taylortown Road. The track entrance will be on the left.

High Point Raceway was recently revamped with a new starting gate and finish line. This will put the entire AMA Pro class on an equal playing field.
