Every third Sunday of June we observe Father’s Day.

Sometimes we are led to believe that Father’s Day is not as important as Mother’s Day, but if we just sit down and give some thought to this we will certainly change our belief.  On Father’s Day we honor that male in our lives whose presence has taught us a lot.  Whether he is our biological father or not, in most cases he is the cornerstone of our foundation!

To every little girl he is our first love…to most little boys he teaches them the importance of a male figure in their lives. It is, of course, our mother who teaches us the basics of everyday life.  Can you remember your dad teaching you to swim or to ride your first bike? Did he teach you to tie a knot in your tie?  Did he show his son how to lead a lady in their first dance or his little girl how to follow the young man on the dance floor?  Was it your daddy who taught you how to drive a car and did he take you to take your driver’s test.?

This list can go on and on and you can add a few memories of your own.  When I was a little girl, daddies went to work and mommies stayed home.  I will admit things have changed these days, but there is still the presence of a father and on this day we should take the time to thank him for all he has done for us.  I recently learned that some of the nicest gifts to give our fathers are tickets to their favorite games or even a gift card to their favorite restaurant.  No matter what the gift, the meaning behind it is what is important.

Because it is important to spend time with your father, make an effort to do it more often. A very special Happy Fathers Day to all you fathers.
