A downpour in downtown Clarksburg did not dampen the enthusiasm or festive spirit of the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new all-inclusive spa that opened last week. More than 30 people relocated inside from the sidewalk at 134 S. Third St. when the weather quickly went from dry to wet at precisely the start time for the planned outdoor ceremony for Trinity Spa in the afternoon of Thursday, July 9.
“It poured the rain down at 2 p.m.,” reported Melanie Rock, one of the spa’s two owners. “We had the ceremony in the reception area, but it didn’t affect our excitement.”
Mayor Cathy Goings, who owns the building where the new business is located between her shop, Embellishments, and The Fifth Floor, her restaurant-lounge, officiated the presentation.
Rock said she and fellow-owner Suzy Oliver were grateful the mayor and many others involved in the city’s revitalization were on hand to wish them well on their special opening day.
“It was very important to have the mayor there and to have her support,” Rock explained. “The mayor knows so many people, and she aided us in getting the word out. And also, she’s the owner of the two businesses we’re between, which are two well-established businesses. It was nice that Cathy took time out of her busy schedule to be there and support us.”
Rock and Oliver hosted an all-day open house for Trinity guests the same day as the ceremony. About 75 people, throughout the day, enjoyed refreshments catered by “My Mother’s Daughter,” a spa tour, chances to win door prizes and just getting to know Rock and Oliver – both who not only own the spa but who provide the services it offers. Both are licensed massage therapists, and each one has other licensed beauty skills as well.
“Suzy and I are very happy to be downtown in a central location,” Rock said. “We look forward to meeting everyone, being a part of the community, and Trinity Spa being a gathering place where friends can come and relax.”
As a full-service spa, Trinity clients can choose from a large menu of luxury treatments: Swedish, Thai, deep-tissue, and hot-stone massages, and facials, body scrubs and body wraps are just some of the many ways available for clients to be renewed and revitalized.
“We also have a sauna and a Vichy shower,” Rock said. “This special shower – a long rain bar suspended over the treatment table – is a nice little convenience for clients, so they don’t have to get up and take a regular shower after body scrubs or wraps.”
Trinity also offers manicures and pedicures. And for those wanting to host spa parties, their specific requests can usually be accommodated, she explained.
Clarksburg resident Rock and West Union resident Suzy Oliver, an East Texas native, met while attending the Clarksburg Beauty Academy and became fast friends.
“We had wanted to go into business together because both of our personalities meshed so well,” Rock explained.
Opening Trinity Spa together was on a fast track. Both were recent owners of spas in Bridgeport. Rock owned Red Rouge Day Spa; Oliver owned OmniEssense. When they found out just early last month that the space on S. Third Street was available, they saw it, loved it, rented it, and in less than two months, had closed their other spas and opened Trinity together. “It was very fast,” she laughed.
Rock reported that the space had once been a spa, so “the layout was perfect” for their present needs.
The two have kept the spa’s decor in accordance with the historic architecture of the downtown building. “Classic and elegant” is how Rock describes the interior design, which boasts a large expanse of exposed brick, creating an urban-industrial atmosphere. The color scheme in the main areas is cream with cocoa brown accents. Each treatment room is painted in a different color.
They chose the name “Trinity” for their new spa business in Suite 300, it’s on Third Street, on the Third Floor and is the third business in that building, Rock explained.
She said she and Oliver are thrilled to offer a unique, many-options spa experience in a convenient downtown area. “We hope it’s going to be a nice addition to downtown Clarksburg. The community has already been very supportive,” she concluded.
