Family Dollar has been a part of Shinnston’s business community for more than three decades. The Shinnston store originally opened in 1986, providing customers both value and convenience and offering a mix of name brands and quality, private brand merchandise.
Like any property, after a little more than 30 years, some updating was in order. Heather Briganti, a spokesperson for Family Dollar, said, “In order to better serve our customers, we renovate our stores from time to time, and it was time for the Shinnston location to get some attention.”
Store Manager Randy Saltis said the crews have been working in the store for the past two and a half weeks, which may have been somewhat inconvenient at times for shoppers as well as the construction crews but they managed it quite well. The store remained open to shoppers throughout the remodeling process.
Walls have been painted, new signs hung, aisles have been rearranged and widened for easier accessibility. The entire back wall of the store is lined with new coolers for and extensive selection of dairy and frozen products – ranging from milk and juice to ice cream treats and frozen dinners.
The checkout counters have been relocated as well and a third checkout has been added. They, too, are new and feature the belted checkout design that will help ensure high circulation of customers and a speedier payment process.
Although flooring was not replaced, all of the 10,370 square feet of the store layout was to be completely stripped and waxed on Tuesday evening in preparation for the store’s official reopening today.
What has customer reaction been during this transition period? Saltis said shoppers have been patient during the remodeling and seem very happy with the changes – particularly the wider aisles.
“It may take a little while for our customers to become familiar with where things are located now since there has been quite a lot of rearranging, but they seem pleased with it,” Saltis noted. “Many think the store appears larger with the new layout so we believe the changes will be beneficial.”
Family Dollar spokesperson Heather Briganti added, “Family Dollar continues to grow and we are thrilled to be able to better serve our customers in this improved store format. We are proud to be part of Shinnston and are looking forward to continuing our relationship with this community.”
A Grand Opening Celebration is planned for this Saturday, July 1st. It will include giveaways and prizes including a tablet and a drone. In addition, on Saturday, the first 50 customers will receive a Family Dollar gift card!
