The ACT 2 Theatre Company will hold open auditions Monday, June 12 at 6:30pm and Saturday, June 17 at 10:30am for ‘Dead Giveaway’ by Pat Cook.
Lydia Mong will direct the play. Performance dates are October 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15 at the McCrory Marketplace downtown Clarksburg. The show is being cast in June to provide plenty of time for the players to become familiar with the script. Rehearsals will begin August 5. Audition format is cold readings, so actors do not have to prepare a monologue.
The play is a full-length mystery comedy. Roles available include Dr. Hugh Bernard, a middle aged man; Angie Bowles, an attractive woman in her 20s. In addition to these the cast requires five women 60-70 years old: Beryl Chartres, a feisty woman who owns the house in which the story takes place; Evelyn Harrigan, an argumentative retired actress; Fiona Standish, a polite woman who aspires to be a novelist; Catherine Meers, a cool lady who spends a lot of time in her garden; and Dinah Boxburrough, a senior citizen Hell’s Angel type.
The story opens as Dr. Hugh Bernard instructs Angie, the newly hired cook and cleaning woman to “find out what’s going on.” Strange things have been happening in the house where five elderly women live “boarding house” style. They all appear to hate each other. And they keep losing one housekeeper after another. What keeps these women together? What dark secrets are they all hiding? And why do they all keep dying? It’s a comedy chiller, where you’re not sure who or what to believe. Who is murdering who? And finally, what really happened to Jinx, the cat?
Individual auditions are also available before June 17 for actors who cannot make the open audition dates. Registering online before arriving at auditions — open or private — will save time at the audition itself. Those who do register online will receive the audition sides in advance to prepare.
All events will take place in the McCrory Marketplace Great Hall, 318 West Main St., downtown Clarksburg WV.
