Boy Scout Troop 59 will be conducting their fourth annual Memorial Day ceremony May 26th. During the ceremony, the scouts will perform an official flag retirement ceremony, in which they cut and burn American flags that have reached the end of service in accordance with United States laws. These are flags that have become worn, torn, faded, or badly soiled.
The scouts will also honor and thank the veterans for their service. Taps will be played and Mayor Sam DeMarco will be the guest speaker.
The annual event takes place at 6:00 p.m. at the Clay District Veterans Memorial at the end of Veterans Memorial Bridge in Shinnston.
Prior to the ceremony, the scouts will be working to clean up and prepare the grounds around the memorial.
