On display this month at the Bice-Ferguson Memorial Museum is the Shinnston Centennial
Flag. During the centennial celebration in 1952 most businesses had this flag over the doorway
with patriotic bunting on either side. The Centennial Committee adopted the design of this flag
to show the things that made the City grow and prosper: farming, transportation, oil wells and
coal. Shown in black were the pillars of education and faith.
