Brice William Boring, 77, of Francis Community, Fairmont, passed away on June 2, 2024 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 6, 1947, a son of James William Frederick Boring and Irene Cora Eastham Boring.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, James Hadley and Fred Boring.
He is survived by his children, Son Robert Gilbert and his wife Robin of Staunton, VA; grandchildren Curtis (Alyssa) Gilbert; and great-grandchildren Harrison and Grayson; Daughter Janice Fae Bittinger and her husband Larry of Shinnston, and grandchildren Broc and Bret Bittinger. He’s also survived by his loving companion, Juanita (Nita) Alfred.
Brice worked as a mechanic for Consolidation Coal Company-Central Repair Shop for 30 years helping to rebuild/repair longwall mining equipment for Robinson Run, Williams, and Loveridge coal mines. He was also a committeeman and member of the UMWA for many years, working through several contracts and labor issues along the way.
He was an accomplished mechanic, welder, carpenter, and heavy equipment operator. He mastered everything he put his mind to, accomplishing most of it by himself.
He loved rebuilding vintage cars, trucks, and tractors. Many hours were spent in his garage working on these projects with his kids.
His friendship, most importantly, will be sorely missed by many, along with the wisdom and advice which he loved to share with all. He was a one-of-a-kind, who offered his help anyway he could, no matter the task.
Brice loved his children and grandchildren fiercely. He was always a family man, no matter what.
A special thanks to Juanita Alfred for the love and care she showed to Brice during his illness.
Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Wednesday June 5, 2024 from 4:00PM-8:00PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 10:00AM with Pastor Aaron Cayton officiating. Interment will follow at Simpson Chapel Cemetery in Middlebourne, WV.
