It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Burley “Bud” Kay Myers Jr., our husband, father, friend, and all-around biggest supporter. He was born on July 8, 1961, the oldest son of Burley “Kay” Myers. Bud was raised in Phoenix Hollow in Reynoldsville, WV, by his father, his grandmother, Goldie G. Myers, and his Aunt Jack McIntyre.
Bud spent 43 wonderful years married to the love of his life, Brenda Lee Myers (Swiger). He often said that there’s no sadness in heaven, but he couldn’t imagine it without his wife there. Together, they created a life full of love and joy, raising three beautiful daughters and opening their hearts to countless other children they loved as their own.
As a dad, Bud was always present—whether he was helping to find the perfect homecoming or prom dress, driving for hours to cheerleading, dance, and marbles competitions, coaching soccer teams, or cheering on his girls and grandsons at swim meets, track and tennis meets, baseball games, wrestling tournaments, plays, recitals, and church programs. He never missed a moment and found joy in supporting them through every adventure in their lives.
To his daughters, Bud was everything—a constant source of love, laughter, and unwavering support. He had a special gift for making every moment bigger than life, whether it was the excitement of picking out a dream dress or cheering from the sidelines. He was there no matter how long the day lasted.
Through his love and guidance, Bud instilled the same values in his children, who are now living them out in the families they are building. His daughters, Samantha “Sammy Jo” Myers and her boyfriend Jeremy Vance Bumgardener, Courtney Hughes and her husband Michael, and their children Zeke, David, Bella, Preston, and Denton, and Janelle Bennett and her husband Zach, all carry forward his legacy of love and devotion.
Bud’s love for family extended to his brother Donnie Myers and his wife, Esther, his sister Tammy Starkey and her companion Josh Campbell, and his nieces and nephews—Brad “Petie,” Greg, Melissa, Donni, Heather, Cheyenne, DJ, Dereck, Stephanie, Donald, Drake, Dean, Lakyn, Kane, Ivy, and Everliegh—as well as the many others he considered family.
A proud member of Reynoldsville Baptist Church, Bud cherished his friendship with Pastor Jon Hayes.
Bud was a 1979 graduate of Liberty High School. He worked alongside his dad and brother pumping oil wells before starting B&B Timber. He later worked for Zeni Drilling, which took him on travels to Ohio, Illinois, Florida, and Papua New Guinea, where he gathered many memorable stories to share. He also worked briefly at Clarksburg Casket Company and as a realtor at Coldwell Banker.
For the past 25 years, Bud owned and operated Bud’s Stop and Shop, Bud and Gal’s Used Cars, and his beloved Bud’s Greenhouse. The greenhouse was more than a job—it was his happy place. He poured his heart into it, growing not just plants but relationships with customers who became friends. He was deeply grateful to the people who helped him build his business, including Sherry and Bill Sampson, Tommy and Mary Carroll, Charles Cozad, and many others. His customers meant the world to him, and he always looked forward to seeing each of them.
A special thank you to Bud’s dedicated medical team, including Raetta Wentz, Paul Davis, Allee Johnson, Salem Family Healthcare, Salman Osman, James “Lewis” Akers, Brandon Shiflett, Prashanth Muthukirishnan, and the compassionate nurses and staff at United Hospital Center on 6 South.
Our family is deeply grateful for the love, support, kindness, and prayers that have helped Bud fight through this battle.
Bud had a way of making the ordinary extraordinary. His kindness, humor, and presence will be missed more than words can express. Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes, and to know him was to feel cherished. Our world has lost someone irreplaceable, but his spirit will live on in the memories of every flower he grew, every laugh he shared, and every moment he was there for his family.

Rest in peace, Bud. You were loved more than you’ll ever know.
