Recreation Sites

ELKINS, W.Va., August 28, 2025 – Some developed campgrounds, picnic areas and both visitor centers in the Monongahela National Forest routinely close from late fall through mid-spring. Because some of these sites do not have a fixed closure date, visit the Forest’s Alerts webpage for information on specific locations and closure dates:

https://www.fs.usda.gov/r09/monongahela/alerts/closing-dates-monongahela-national-forest-recreation-sites.

Roadside camping, also called dispersed camping, is available in many areas of the Forest year-round.

For more information about recreation facilities, contact the District Office near the location you would like to visit. Contact information is listed at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r09/monongahela/offices.
