Fairmont State University will host its second West Virginia High School Counselor Day on Tuesday, September 22 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The event will provide free professional development and networking opportunities for high school counselors throughout the state and assist them with better preparing their college-bound high school students.
The informational event will highlight various aspects of the college search and planning process including areas such as financial aid and FAFSA, admissions, higher education technology platforms, current updates on student health and wellness initiatives, among others. Fairmont State University Academic Deans, and representatives from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission will offer development sessions with counselors throughout the day.
West Virginia High School Counselor Day was first held in September 2022 after Admissions and Recruiting representatives from Fairmont State received feedback from West Virginia high school counselors citing a need for professional development opportunities that would help them efficiently aid their students who are planning on attending college.
“We are very excited to host our second West Virginia High School Counselor Day and help counselors and students across our state feel more confident in the higher education admissions process,” said Associate Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment Alicia Kalka. “While visiting High Schools the last several years in person, we noticed a need for professional development opportunities for high school counselors and we are very proud to be able to offer this necessary training.”
All counselors employed at West Virginia high schools are encouraged to attend. Those in attendance may receive a discounted rate at the Holiday Inn in Fairmont.
