Fairmont State’s Sam Keil was named Mountain East Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his 3-for-3 performance at Alderson Broaddus on Thursday night, helping the Falcons improve to 4-0 on the season. Shepherd’s Billy Brown (Offensive) and D’Angelo Niler (Defensive) also earned Mountain East Conference honors for their play in the fourth week of the season.
Keil, a junior kicker from Carmichael, Calif., is the MEC Special Teams Player of the Week after hitting all three of his field goal attempts against Alderson Broaddus. Keil hit from 21, 32 and 36 yards as the Falcons won 16-3 to improve to 4-0 on the year.
Brown, a senior wideout from Gaithersburg, Md., is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week after helping the fourth-ranked Rams to a key MEC win over Notre Dame. Brown had nine catches for a career-high 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He had three receptions of over 20 yards, including TD receptions of 74 and 61 yards, and seven of his nine catches went for first downs.
Niler, a junior linebacker from Upper Marlboro, Md., is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week after playing a key role in Shepherd’s win over Notre Dame. Niler piled up eight tackles (five solo), including four for a loss with a sack, and broke up a pass. With SU leading 28-10 but Notre Dame threatening to score early in the fourth quarter, Niler forced a fumble that was returned for a Rams touchdown that helped put the game out of reach. He was a part of a defensive unit that limited Notre Dame to 257 yards of total offense, including just 52 yards on the ground.

Offense: James Cousins (UVa-Wise) had four catches for 127 yards, including a 96-yard reception, to help lead the Cavs to a win over Glenville State … Michael Anderson (WVWC) rumbled for 237 yards on 34 carries against Concord … Dakota Conwell (WLU) had over 300 yards of total offense and three touchdowns to help the Hilltoppers win for the first time this season … Tevion Cappe (UC) rushed for 185 yards on 19 carries and a pair of scores in a win over West Virginia State … Terrell Charles (FSU) had his third 100-yard rushing game of the season last week … Mitchell Shegos (NDC) tallied seven catches for 122 yards and two scores last week … Dante Absher (GSC) had 12 catches for 113 yards … Juwan Etheredge (WVSU) had 127 yards on 20 carries … Larry Southall (UU) had his first TD reception of the season and finished with four catches for 31 yards
Defense: Jerry Iweh (FSU) had five tackles and an interception as the Falcons picked up a non-conference win over Alderson Broaddus … Akil Bordelon (CU) had nine total tackles and picked off a pair of passes to help secure the victory for the Mountain Lions … Logan Deri (WLU) led the Toppers on defense with seven tackles, three pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery … Zachary Blair (UVa-Wise) finished the game with 10 tackles (five solo) and had two more for a loss in the Cavs’ win over Glenville State … Kahzin Daniels (UC) had 3.5 tackles for a loss, including 2.5 sacks, and forced a fumble in a win … Clayton Bullard (UU) had five tackles, including a sack, and also knocked down a pass against West Liberty … Marcus Umu (GSC) tallied nine total tackles for the Pioneers … Keith Johnson (WVWC) had a team-best seven tackles for the Bobcats … Aykee Henderson (NDC) had six tackles, including a sack, and broke up three passes
Special Teams: Giles Guy-Williams (GSC) had a 61-yard punt return for a touchdown in a loss at UVa-Wise … Garrett Lee (CU) averaged 44.8 yards on eight punts with three landing inside the 20 … Anton Vrebac (NDC) had six punts averaging 46.6 yards with four inside the 20 … Tyler Fisher (WVWC) had one field goal, a pair of extra points and placed two punts inside the 20.
