Gilbert “Gib” Junior Westfall

Gilbert “Gib” Junior Westfall, 93, of Koons Run, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.  He was born on October 23, 1931 in Lumberport to the late Doy and Stella (Kittle) Westfall.  Gilbert was the last surviving member of his immediate family, which included five sisters and two brothers.  He was married to the late Lillie Marie (Higginbotham) Westfall for 65 years.

Gilbert is also preceded in death by his son, George Junior Westfall.

He is survived by his son, David Westfall and wife Marcia; daughter in law Connie Westfall; grandchildren:  Brandie Haney and Kiley Paul, Amy Raines and Chad, David Westfall II and Nichelle, Zachary and Zeth Westfall; nine great grandchildren:  Caleb, Kiley and Aiden Haney, Ally and Sam Swiger, Ethan Raines, Brevon Westfall and Lucy and Forrest Westfall as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gilbert served in the United States Navy as a combat veteran during the Korean War as a 17-year-old.  After serving in the Navy, he owned and operated a Bit Shop before working at the MVA Fairmont and Shinnston clinics as head of maintenance.  He enjoyed being around local youth having coached his sons and grandson’s baseball teams as well as playing and coaching men’s softball teams, even hosting softball tournaments on his property in Kilarm.  He was an avid card player, having played with friends until early 2024.  He was generous to his family and enjoyed family celebrations and picnics. 

Gilbert has chosen cremation with no formal services.

Dorsey Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements for the Westfall family.
