Fabian Guerra’s one-handed catch that received national attention back in October has been named the 2014-15 MEC Play of the Year.
Guerra’s 30-yard touchdown reception against Concord garnered national attention being featured as one of Sports Center’s Top 10 Plays on October 4, 2014. Quarterback Cooper Hibbs rolled to his left and lofted the ball to Guerra who reached across his body amongst two defenders and came down with the one-handed catch.
The following week, the play was also featured during top play segments on NFL Network and the Big 10 Network.
The play tallied more than 116,000 views on the department’s YouTube channel and a pair of tweets posted the night of the game totaled more than 40,000 views and 5,600 engagements on twitter.
The MEC Play of the Year was selected by a combination of a fan vote conducted via social media, conference administrators and the league office. Guerra’s catch reached over 6,000 people on Facebook and was shared 1,300 times on Twitter, as well as “liked” 740 times on Instagram during the MEC social media “fan vote”.
