The Immaculate Conception Parish Nurse Ministry is holding a Blood Drive on Friday, April 19 from 1-5 pm in the Parish Center at 150 S Maple Avenue Clarksburg, WV. Vitalant will be the company running the blood drive.
According to Vitalant.org, the company was founded in 1943 and is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit blood and biotherapies healthcare organizations. They provide hospitals and patients across the U.S. a safe blood supply, as well as specialized laboratory services, transfusion medicine expertise and world-renowned research. The site also shared, “Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. This could be a little girl in the ICU or a mother with Stage 3 leukemia.”
Theresa White, a retired nurse who is active with the Immaculate Conception Parish Nurse Ministry, said the blood stays in the Morgantown/Fairmont/Clarksburg area. This is neighbors helping neighbors through a community minded ministry. The Immaculate Conception Parish Nurse Ministry began in July 2013 at the request of the church pastor, Fr. Casey Mahone. The parish nurses do not do direct patient care, but act as a liaison between the community and the health care system. Their mission statement is “To enhance the overall health of our parishioners (mind, body, and spirit) with a focus on integrating the practice of faith with the practice of nursing.” What started out as a focus on their own parish, now includes other parishes in the area.
If you are interested in donating blood, contact Theresa White at 304-669-6063 or visit vitalant.org and search with account code 10056037 or by zip code. Appointments are recommended.
