Bridgeport, W.Va.—Apoorva S. Iyer, MD, is joining Bridgeport Endocrinology, having finished her endocrinology fellowship at West Virginia University School of Medicine.
She graduated from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. Following was a Doctor of Medicine degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, and an internal medicine residency from the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
Awards and honors include selection as an Endocrine Society Early Career Forum Travel Award and winner for a National Advance Care Planning Conference poster and presentation. Earlier in her education she was a Virginia State scholarship recipient and was an Echols Scholar while at the University of Virginia, joining a select group of students who are offered unusual academic freedom, creative opportunity, community, and attention that will assist in achieving academic and career goals.
Her clinical skills include continuous glucose monitoring interpretation; lipids, obesity and weight loss medicine; osteoporosis and bone disorders; thyroid ultrasounds; and thyroid fine needle aspirations.
Dr. Iyer is board eligible for endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism certification and holds internal medicine certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
She enjoys music, both as a vocalist and instrumentalist, including time spent as an a cappella musician. She has had experience in both South Indian and North Indian classical music.
