Janet Bates, 86, of Bridgeport, passed away on October 2, 2025. She was born in Clarksburg on February 27, 1939, a daughter to the late Argyl Allen and Hazel (Robey) Allen. Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin D. Bates, and second husband Harold Junior Bates.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Bates (Renee) of Fairmont, and Rodney Bates (Jennifer) of Bridgeport; grandchildren Bridget King, Gidget (Mike) Swiger, Nikki (Andy) Gorman, Taylor Bates (Todd), and Logan Bates; great-grandchildren Lydia,Morgan, Matthew (Amber), Nathan Gorman, Lainey Bates, and soon to be great-grandson Leo Farley.
Janet worked at Eagle Convex Glass for many years, and WalMart for 15 years. She was a member of Eastern Star for over fifty years, and also a member of Rebekah Lodge, Wallace. She enjoyed walking, reading her Bible daily, and baking and cooking. Her favorite thing to do was to take care of and spend time with her family.
Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Monday, October 6, 2025 from 5:00PM-8:00PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 11:00AM with Pastor Larry Kyle officiating. Interment will follow at Brown Cemetery.
